For a wedding evening do (not fancy). Really struggling to put something together.

Is this outfit ok?

Yes, is it a dress? My criticism is the shoes, they don't fit in with the heavy jacket. Could you wear it with closed in heels?

Actually, I don't really think the jacket goes with the outfit, sorry!

On a positive note, you have a great figure for the dress you're wearing.

retainertrainer · 26/09/2017 14:27

Yeh this is the problem I'm having. I've got dresses,I haven't got the shoes or coat to go with them and I'm trying to make the stuff I've already got work but it's just not.

I've got a black blazer but it looks too 'work wear'.

It's ok, I'll hit the shops at the weekend-I just needed an honest yes/no on this outfit.

Thanks Smile

Or this?

The dress and jacket/dress and blazer combo looks good but again not with those shoes - it's almost October and if it's cold enough for a jacket it's too cold for the strappy sandals.

retainertrainer · 26/09/2017 15:15

So closed toe shoes and the rest of the outfit would be ok?

Summer weddings are soooooo much easier!

I find it difficult to dress in September, it's a tricky season.

I think the first outfit but if you're going with the leather jacket, how about some high heeled shoe boots to make it look a bit edgier? You've got great ankles so could pull that off.

The 2nd outfit is a bit conservative although fine for a serious work meeting, it doesn't look like a party outfit.

furlinedsheepskinjacket · 26/09/2017 15:36

blazer and dress look nice but need a colourful scarf to make it look a bit less worky/more dressy

retainertrainer · 26/09/2017 15:40

Thanks for the ideas. I'm not mad on either outfit really,I think I need something more colourful. They are both a bit too 'work wear'. I'm useless at this!

You have a great figure and you look fab. I agree you need a pop of colour and closes shoes xx hope you have a great time

Desperad0 · 26/09/2017 15:44

If it's an evening do surely you won't wear the jacket other than to travel in? if all indoors the strappy shoes are fine

RavingRoo · 26/09/2017 15:47

The first outfit but take the jacket off when you get in.

retainertrainer · 26/09/2017 17:29

Thank you for the kind comments.

Yes,I'm only walking from car to venue. I'll see how I get on finding some shoes at the weekend but I feel more confident to wear this if I struggle.

Out of the two outfits I do prefer the first one. I'm more of a short skirt girl, but of course everyone has different styles.

If you go with the first outfit, I would say take away the jacket, and add maybe sone black closed toe shoes. Then we're groovin'. You'll look lovely Smile

Nettletheelf · 26/09/2017 18:23

Second outfit a bit 'worky'.

The first is better, but the shoes aren't working.

retainertrainer · 26/09/2017 18:39

Just shown DH and he said neither looked right.

I've been trawling through the internet and can't find a single dress that catches my eye.

I'd like something short, long sleeved with a bit of colour. I'm thinking thick black tights, closed toe heels and no coat.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd love some help!

The first one is great.

Wear the jacket on your shoulders get a massive colourful bangle in glass or acrylic and red lipstick- you'll look a million dollars. It looks HOT with those strappy sandals!

People are very "proper" on mumsnet Grin wear what you like- you'll look fab if you're happy.

knowler · 26/09/2017 18:52

Something simple like this from French Connection?

ILikeyourHairyHands · 27/09/2017 07:55

I agree withFurcoat, not seeing a problem with that outfit at all.

It looks acers.

Loopytiles · 27/09/2017 07:59

First dress/jacket, take jacket off on arrival and get some closed toe shoes.

Loopytiles · 27/09/2017 07:59

Or just wear those shoes!

Ohyesiam · 27/09/2017 08:01

You have a great figure. I prefer the first look, would add some colour somewhere.

The shoes look good, mn is a world of unnecessary etiquette that doesn't really exist. If the fashion police arrest you for wearing strappy sandals in September, Just pm me, I'll pay the bailWink.
But honestly, you look great.

welliesandsequins · 27/09/2017 08:03

I like the first outfit but I think I would buy some bright heels to add colour. Maybe a red suede court shoe?

twobambinos · 27/09/2017 09:19

First one. I think I have that jacket. I would add colour somewhere though. Bright lipstick/ or earrings/bag/shoes.

Needalifeoverhaul · 27/09/2017 09:55

First outfit with some bright red shoes as pp said. plus red lipstick and think you'll look great! Second outfit is too office-y in my opinion.Smile

Peppermeant · 27/09/2017 10:21

I don't love either sorry. First for a night out and second for work but neither for a wedding? With your figure I would find a long sleeved pencil style dress with some colour.
