Has anyone bought any cashmere knitwear from marks and spencer at all? How does it wash/wear? What's the fit like, is it best to size up? Thank you

I have their star print jumper. Size down as they come up big. Only had it a few weeks so don't know how well it will wash....

Floisme · 25/09/2017 09:59

I think it's ok. Not the best I've ever bought (that was second hand Brora) but not the worst - that honour goes to Uniqlo.

It shrank a little bit the first time so, if you're in between, I'd say size up. But since then it's washed ok. It's bobbled but nothing one of those combs won't sort out. It hasn't felted.

I'm a bit indifferent to it but I think that's more because the V neck isn't deep enough - which has nothing to do with the quality and everything to do with me buying too randomly!

Thanks, I've got a Boden cashmere v beck but it cost ££'a and looks super plain and frumpy on - maybe I don't like cashmere like I think I should?!

I buy the men's jumpers which are excellent quality. I wash them regularly in the washing machine and they still look good.

WellTidy · 25/09/2017 12:38

I've bought M&S cashmere before and it has been ok. Not amazing, but ok, especially if you buy with a 20% off discount. The best cashmere I've bought is in the Pure sale. But I haven't bought from Brora to be able to compare.

KarateKitten · 25/09/2017 12:39

I felt it yesterday in M&S and it's not good quality. You wouldn't even guess it was cashmere.

silkpyjamasallday · 25/09/2017 12:48

I had a few from the men's section a few years ago and they were fantastic quality and washed well. Sadly they have been eaten by moths this summer so I'm hoping the quality is still the same as I have to replace them.

millifiori · 25/09/2017 12:54

I have a cashmere M&S jumper which is gorgeous - washes well and still very soft. It does bobble though, and it has shrunk a little but that was my fault, I think. I'd buy from them again but nothing this year is right. All too short or too 'M&S funky' which is horrible.

Best cashmere by miles were the Jaeger ones - so soft and last really well, no pilling. But they don't seem to do 100% cashmere any more.

I've never fancied the uniqlo cashmere. It feels a bit scratchy and everything looks a bit skimpy.

Ktown · 25/09/2017 13:29

I love it but you need to size up

Squashit · 25/09/2017 14:20

Autograph cashmere wears well- I would say size up as cashmere looks better slouchy.I recommend Johnston of Elgin, John Lewis weekend, Repeat and Pure (but not gassato as it is too gauzy).

I don't rate Next, Sainsbury, Tesco or Edinburgh wool Mill/Isle. Boden is disappointing too and seem to always cut their stuff frumpsville.

Avoid cashmillion from M&S. Primark is better quality!

pasturesgreen · 25/09/2017 15:12

I find that M&S cashmere tends to bobble horrendously. These days I tend to trawl the charity shops for some hidden gems, vintage is usually much better quality.

JDSTER · 25/09/2017 17:07

Really helpful comments on where to buy. Sounds like Brora is worth splashing out on. I've got a lovely cashmere jumper from Boden that I got a few years ago. A bit oversized in a gorgeous colour but I've never seen them repeat the style. Recently I washed it on the wrong cycle and it's shrank ever so slightly. Angrywith myself!

ilovecherries · 25/09/2017 17:22

I find M&S ok - I have about 4 jumpers from about 5 years ok that are still going strong, though I've been less keen on style/colour in recent years. I've also had no problems with Boden, although again my stuff is from a couple of years ago. Pure is lovely - I have a boyfriend cardi that's 8 years old and I still wear it. I like a cotton/cashmere mix if I can find it - very durable.

shouldaknownbetter · 25/09/2017 18:28

I have a few cashmere cardis from M and S and really like them ! I tend to buy them 2nd hand on ebay, they usually keep their condition well, saves me £££

thecatfromjapan · 25/09/2017 18:36

I like M and S cashmere cardigans. I love the fact they go through the wash. That said, I tend to wash on a cold, gentle wash.

I have one cardigan from Brora, which is amazing: beautiful colour, lovely quality. However, Brora is sooo pricey!

TK Maxx is worth looking at. And look in the men's section. PP who said cashmere is nice when slouchy is spot on. One of my favourite cashmere sweaters was an oversize Gap men's sweater.
