Please find me a dress for a posh wedding

that is either 'traditional' guest or quirky.

I'm so stuck because I have put up weight and have gone from an eight to a ten and am now a size 12. I don't even know what I'd like but all I can find are bodycon dresses or wide skirted dresses (both make my hips and stomach look huge and round). I'd love a dress that looks sophisticated (no florals) like Meghan Markle sometimes wears), cap sleeves would be great.

Abi in EastEnders was wearing a lovely dress in tonight's funeral scene which is a style I really like if anybody watches EE.

Can anybody please help?

Cannot You sound like you are the same shape as me. My hips are a 12 and my top a 10. Do you find the full skirts make your hips look bigger?

Depends on the style of the big skirt. So one of the dresses I own i would say yes it does but it is a very full skirt and heavy material and I don't mind it looking big as I like a fifties full skirt look. I also am short 5'2", but usually wear heels with that style. I have a more fitted Chichi dress that I equally adore that doesn't make me look bigger.

Oh and i haven't purchased the dresses in Petite. Not shown my dresses in link btw just possibilities.

Theycalledmethewildrose · 23/09/2017 17:14

Thank you again.

So you buy the regular length dresses and they aren't too long for a 5ft 3 person? I was going to buy petite as am the same height.

No i haven't found them to long but I have quite a short torso and 'regular' legs considering my short stature . So i don't buy Petite sizes unless it is tops. Hope that helps!

I think we are a very similar shape! Thank you, your advice has been very helpful!

I would rate most things from House of Foxy for your figure: doesn't look cheap, has similar designs to the one you like

Yes I do thank you.

There is something about the detail of the other dress that I prefer though, perhaps the neckline and slightly longer length?

All five of the Chi Chi dresses arrived today. They don't suit me. The fuller ones make me feel about five years old and are unflattering on my hips and the straighter ones look cheap (on me).

I want to feel sophisticated and a little sexy (not LBD sexy). Am starting to panic now!

Courage, ma brave!

Yes, I know this is over budget, but do you like it?

Yes it is lovely. Really lovely. The right blend of sophistication sexiness but my alss my body is not toned enough for it.

That is probably a lot of the problem if I am honest. I am a completely different shape and vow to tone up and lose a stone between now and Christmas.

Laska5772 · 27/09/2017 19:07

this Coast?

Theycalledmethewildrose · 27/09/2017 19:59

The Coast dress is lovely. It is years since I bought from Coast. I haven't been to a wedding in about six years! Does anyone know what the sizing is like please? I bought a size 10 in the ChiChi dresses because somebody said they are big sizing but I found them all too tight My hips are expanding at a terrible rate. I'd definitely be a 12 in them if I was buying again.

Have a look here

I wore one for my wedding 2 years ago and it was beautifully constructed
£32 instead of £120
I'd have paid double

If I am honest, I wouldn't have thought ChiChi was posh - more party girl and worn by my 22 year old.

For a more sophisticated look, Reiss has some great dresses in at the moment. Neptune dress with good jewellery, shoes and bag would be great for a winter wedding. Pop a faux fur over the top and you are ready for cooler weather too. There are some other great dresses too. I think you need to spend a bit more to look classy.

Reiss have beautiful dresses but not for anyone with a stomach tbh. I would look pregnant in most of them but I have fallen for the Mara dress which fortunately for my bank balance is only available in a size 8.

I really don't want to spend a couple of hundred pounds on a dress that I will wear once. I know that somebody will come along and say that if I buy a certain dress, it will never go out of style but my style will change, my figure will change and lastly I just do not have the lifestyle where I would have many opportunities to wear such a dress and I simply do not want to spend so much for a dress for one day.
