Prom dress from China?

RapunzelsRealMom · 22/09/2017 22:40

I've seen the prom fails on Facebook but have also heard that it can be done, well.

Has anyone ordered a prom dress, ball gown, etc from the Far East and would recommend?

Thanks

I suspect most of them come from the Far East, even if you buy them in Debenhams or wherever.

Yes, but I mean ordering direct.

I think it can be a real hit or miss (most likely a miss) when ordering direct. I was just looking for recommendations for a lower cost option

Yup my bridesmaid dresses were from china. You need to go up at least one size and the colour looked quite different but that was fine for me. Not as much tailoring as implied from the photos but due to the style that was okay

Tinsel where did you buy from? Was it online? Website please? Thanks

EBay

From what I hear of AliExpress, you need to look carefully at buyer reviews and buyer photos. You can get lovely stuff though - a couple of Irish bloggers have been outed over the last few days for buying AliExpress stuff and reselling at markups of up to 900%. The original products on AliExpress are lovely!

My daughter did this. It was a beautiful dress and great value for money (about £30 I think). However I then had to spend £95ish on having it tailored to fit her. (She is petite with a tiny waist but broad shoulders and hips). But even so, she ended up with something very special and very her and not part of the bog standard colour palette in the UK high street at the time.

I'm sorry I can't remember. It was 4 years ago now and all I can remember is it came from China and took about two months to arrive. , I even checked the dress for labels but there aren't any. I just posted to show you can get nice things but they aren't perfect straight off the peg. Like wedding dresses they will probably need some work.

I hope you and Rapunzel find something lovely for her. If all else fails there's a full length ice blue sequinned dress in my spare room you can borrow. I'm sure DD wouldn't mind!

I bought DD's holy communion dress from China. eBay £10. Was perfect.

We got one off ebay. It had a zip and wasn't as tight as it should be. My sis put in a eyelet back and it was perfect.

RapunzelsRealMom · 23/09/2017 17:07

Thanks everyone. I'll give eBay a go. I'll take a risk as the prices are so low, I can write it off if it's a complete fail
