I want a big meriangue wedding dress btw I am young and its a big church wedding so bare with me in terms of bigness etc.

So I liked this a lot but it was a bit asymetrical-
dress 1

I loved this one - I keep thinking about it, its very much what I imagined I would like. Will def try on again.
dress 2

I really liked this one, its very 'fluffy' (ie the skirt looks like a duvet) for my tastes but I felt fab in it, really princessy and it was flattering, and now I am home I can't stop thinking about it!! Please ignore the colour in the picture! I would have ivory. I would want to try it on again but I wonder if its the one?
dress 3

What do you think?

worzella · 05/04/2007 22:16

really think 3 is OTT and really don't like it!

Is 2 a bit plain?

Liked 1 - so long as the lace doesn't look cheap!!

But - hey it's your wedding... so choose what you like best. Good luck with choosing it.

soph28 · 05/04/2007 22:17

DEFINITELY number 2- it's absolutely gorgeous- elegant and understated- meaning that you can have some really beautiful accessories too.

Number 1 is nice but a bit ordinary.

Number 3 is ok but hard to pull off.

luciemule · 05/04/2007 22:17

I really liked all 3 but felt that I would choose Number 1, for its complete fairytale princess factor and it's very this season with its lace overlay and asymetric design.
Number 2 is much more simple and clean lined and modern in its design. Not as much wow factor though (only in my opinion).
Number 3 - fabulous and if you wanted to make a statement, that could be the dress.

Did you have someone with you and what did they think?

Blondilocks · 05/04/2007 22:18

I like number 1 best out of those 3.

i couldn't resist looking at others and like this

MrsBadger · 05/04/2007 22:19

NB did you ever hear anyone say about a bride 'oh she looks too understated'?
No such thing as too restrained.
Definite risk of going over the top.

Smurfgirl · 05/04/2007 22:19

I really do think that vile pink makes it look worse but I do know that its not everyones taste (or apparently no-ones!) Ho hum.

Mrs Badger weirdly I tried that dress on today - was hideous on.

Twinsetandpearls. My arms are rank actually badly scarred.

Still look nice in strapless.

I do think, however, that how it looks on YOU is more important than how it looks on a model in the picture. Take a pic and post it!

Dottydot · 05/04/2007 22:21

You're going to look stunning in any of them!

Smurfgirl · 05/04/2007 22:21

If it helps this is a picture of me in a ballgown -
see i do suit strapless style!

flutterbee · 05/04/2007 22:21

Have you thought about getting your dress made?

I had mine made for my wedding and it was the best decision I made, I got the exact dress I wanted, no compromise needed and it fitted me perfectly because it waa made for me and me only.

Also I know that no other woman in the world will ever have a dress like mine and it just makes you feel even more special.

HotXMum · 05/04/2007 22:23

Sorry but not keen on any. What colouring are you? How tall are you? Are you plump or skinny? Just trying to get an idea of a style.

MerryMarigold · 05/04/2007 22:23

I would try and find something else with the pretty laciness of the first one, but without the asymmetricalness (is that a word??!!).

I actually like dress 3 in the dark pink, but you have to very tall to carry off that style. Also, I think be careful with the fabric. The girl in the pale pink version looks BAD (sorry if she's an MNetter!) because a) she is not slim or tall enough and b) I think she chose a softer fabric than the original design - you have to have a very hard, shiny satin for that to work.

Smurfgirl · 05/04/2007 22:24

Not allowed to take pictures unless you buy it - because people go in, try on and then get a dress maker to copy.

I know its my choice but I would like to avoid being laughed at.

Went with my best friend and bridesmaid. She liked all 3, said no.3 was fabulous on me but was not sure of the skirt style but it did suit me...hmm.

Apparently my dress tastes are very London (I live in Hull and I am from Middlesbrough)

dandasmummy · 05/04/2007 22:24

You'd suit dress 1.

janeite · 05/04/2007 22:24

I love number 2. Don't like number one much and think 3 isn't very nice at all, sorry. But you need to go for whatever YOU feel best in and ignore us!

HotXMum · 05/04/2007 22:25

Not many folk can get away with lace Merry. Looks great on gals with ordinary looks, you know, not too ugly and not too pretty.

Smurfgirl · 05/04/2007 22:25

Ignore dress one. I won't pick it for my wedding day.

OP posts:
paddingtonbear1 · 05/04/2007 22:25

love you in the dress in your pic, smurfgirl. gorgeous colour!

Dottydot · 05/04/2007 22:25

Yes I was thinking you'd need to be fairly tall to carry off dress 3, or the skirt bit would possibly be a bit overwhelming.

I think you'd suit dress 2! (and now that sounds like I'm implying you're short - I'm not, I just like dress 2 the most and having seen your photo think you'd suit it!)

Aloha · 05/04/2007 22:26

Having seen you I'm afraid I do think that 1 or 2 would be nicer.

I suspect your friend of being tactful! Sorry!

Smurfgirl · 05/04/2007 22:27

I am 5'4" so quite short.

I am size 16, but hope to be a 14 (am slimming) and I have big boobs!!

OP posts:
dandasmummy · 05/04/2007 22:27

If not 1, then 2. NOT 3. Sorry.

luciemule · 05/04/2007 22:27

You could go with Flutterbees suggestion and take ideas from all of the dresses you love and then have someone make up your desgin.
I'm no fashion expert but I took a theme from a dress I liked from the film Shakespear in Love and then got my sister to draw my design. Then my mum's friend made it using the material I bought - it worked out so much cheaper and I got a beautiful one-off winter wedding dress.
It is the one way of having exactly what you want.

Nip · 05/04/2007 22:28

I really like 1 and 2 (prefer 2) and not overly keen on 3 in either colour however i just wanted to add that i had a maggie sottero dress and it was FAB!

(What ever you decide you'll look stunning - i guarantee!)

paddingtonbear1 · 05/04/2007 22:28

yes I think you'd suit dress 2.
