I'm about to have some time to go shopping next week but don't really follow fashion.

What should I buy as basics for my autumn wardrobe.. ? I need shoes a coat and some going out stuff at least

Please help me anyone who is vaguely fashionable... I am not and want to be .. I am 40 years old and a size 12-14

Thanks!

I'd like to know too! I live in skinny jeans and converse and any old jumper/Tshirt/cardy but have no idea whether I'm fashionable, completely unfashionable or somewhere in the middle!!!

I saw lots of people wearing shortened jeans/trousers with ankle boots. Tried to pull it off myself but I'm too short. I think it must be a very hip trend because everyone is at it. Clothes embellished with faux fur seems to be in zara, at first I thought how odd, but I like it now. I'm talking about entire sleeves made out of fur not just cuffs. Bags with colourful straps and lots of red. Apart from these observations I'm really not sure Confused

I'd like to know this too....I have a bit of money to spend (very unusual to have money to treat myself!) and would like some new autumn winter bits.

I live in black skinny jeans and tshirt/jumper and either converse/ankle boots too....

Boyfriend jeans atm Confused Generally I find Autumn is the season where as long as you dress in the reds/browns/oranges etc you can be as unfashionable as you like and get away with it Grin

It's rather fun at the moment - statement sweaters and t-shirts, faux fur and gold and silver brogues! Velvet shoes and ankle boots are around a lot, but I can't help thinking that you'd have to keep these for going out, as no way are they going to last in a downpour. But ankle boots, brogues and loafers are all in. Which is good, as they're immensely wearable, particularly with straight leg jeans and trousers. It's getting the gap right between either your shoes or ankle boots and the bottom of your trousers that makes that look work. I'm quite tall, but not particularly long of leg. I've found that about 2-2 1/2 inches above my ankle bone seems to work. I turn up my jeans either twice, or in one long cuff, but haven't gone the raggedy edge look as I don't think it's me.

I think you could have some fun with straight leg/boyfriend jeans, and a fun jumper with faux fur, without spending a fortune.

I've seen quite a few longer jackets, in a check like this from Zara. I'm beginning to think I could be tempted. But I haven't seen any coats anywhere yet that are really interesting. Maybe it's a bit too early?

ChinUp I like that jacket, saw it and many similar looking items whilst out shopping last week. Have you been in Zara? I'm mad looking to talk to somebody about the furry sleeved jumpers. They aren't online yet and nobody seems to know what I'm on about.

ChinUpChestOut · 21/09/2017 13:08

I've seen the furry jumpers!! But haven't seen any online yet. They look great fun, I think they're going to be the thing this winter. More practical than those bloody literally cold shoulder jumpers.

Maudlinmaud · 21/09/2017 13:13

Chin they are fun! I want one now but was a little shocked by them at first. The kids versions are lovely too, think I'll get one for dd. But how on earth do you wash them?
The fur will/might go horribly wrong after.

Pestilentialone · 21/09/2017 13:36

Patterned velvet boots were around last year and are here again. These Hudson ones are leather lined and if sprayed well with protector do stand up to the weather. Leave to dry and then brush gently.
Fave jeans coz then you will be comfy.
Jumpers with fur sleeves sound fun and the a short trench coat because if your boots and jumper are crazy, the coat should be subtle (and last several years).

Trainers with everything

Impracticality wide and drapey sleeves seems a thing if my hunt for some nice sweaters is anything to go by. I don't know when you are meant to wear them but they'd be filthy and/or sopping wet in no time in many every day activities.

'90s rehash of 70s fashion seems to be making a comeback, embroidered patterns on denim and high necked tops. Frilly bits on sleeves also a thing. And still lots of rips in denim. Am now totally done with rips. RIP rips can't come soon enough for me.
