Evening shoes yay or nay?

Black tie affair with formal dinner dull speeches and dancing. Stuffy corporate do, Plain black dress, Wrong side of 50.
MN encouraged me to buy some evening shoes.
DH, who has awful taste says no. DD who's 30 years younger says yes.
I think they look cheap and we're £20 to be fair.

I've tried them on and there'll definitely be no dancing in them so have decided against.

I think those colour evening shoes with a plain black dress don't really work. Very pretty with a lighter colour dress, but not with black. I would have a really interesting pair of black shoes, maybe like these if you wanted a lower heel, or these if you could wear a higher heel. Go and have a rummage on the John Lewis website, there's lots to choose from!

Thanks Chin, those mint velvet ones are very pretty.

I think they look elegant and timeless. And the low price is a bonus. They definitely don't look cheap.

I considered buying them in silver but they're not leather.
