Hi, I posted last week about a pair of black patent size 5 crippling me so I went back to swap for the 6...now these feel slightly too big (Grrrrr!) I can wear them ok with fluffy socks but I just want to know, is slightly too big the way to go? Or do I admit defeat and return them? What's your experience? I wish they did half sizes!Confused

If they're not right, you won't wear them. I'd return and try leather because they will give. The reviews on those patent ones all say they are cut too narrow.

Thanks for the reply PNgirl, the size 6 are actually a bit big with normal socks, have to wear thick/fluffy for them to fit better, the 5 as you way were far too narrow, just really asking if a bit too big is OK..if not, may do as you suggest and get softer ones in a 5 that are more likely to give a bit.....hmmmm....Confused

Mine are a bit big, but very comfy now I've broken them in

Thanks mogloveseggs...dilemma then! Many reviews say a bit big is OK...may continue on my quest to become a docs wearer once again then, would love more opinions/experiences...

I've a few different pairs and find the fit can vary between styles and also the year of manufacture. I'd go back to the shop and try on a variety of styles to see what fits you best. Also, if you buy leather ones they can be stretched with spray, but I don't think this works as well on patent ones which have less "give". I find all docs can be a bit sore when you first wear them, but if they are the right size they are very comfy once they are broken in.

PNGirl · 20/09/2017 13:21

Yes, I meant if you try a 5 in a different material they are likely to fit better.

PNGirl · 20/09/2017 13:23

Basically I bought some dark red ones in an EU 40 (they say this is a 6.5 but it's more like a 7 - I'm a 6 but they were in a sale) and they slid about like clown shoes even with thick socks, so I sold them and bought some in a 6!

Notsoaccidentproneanymore · 20/09/2017 13:27

Different styles fit differently. I take a 6.5 in a DM. tried a 6 - slightly too small, 7 - slightly too big.

And the ones with a squarer toe are just too wide.

Maybe you could put an inner sole in?

Bluesheep8 · 20/09/2017 13:51

Thanks all, may go back and have a few try on's in different styles, will try insoles as well as per notsoaccidentprone...all advice appreciated as ever!
