Ugg Boot Disappointment. What else do I choose?

So I ordered a pair of black ankle uggs (with a lovely liberty print at the heel) from m&m direct. They arrived today and well, I'm totally underwhelmed.

The sheepskin across the foot feels thin and the sheepskin lining feels a bit sparse and not at all plush and thick like I'd imagined. So think I'll be returning them.

So I'm back to scratch and wondering whether to go for just sheepskin or Celtic and co.

I have just sheepskin Albery slippers which are about 6yrs old and still amazingly warm and cozy, so quite attracted to the boot version for this reason.

Also found an old thread on here giving the thumbs up to Celtic and co boots which look good though a bit over my £100-ish budget.

I want warm feet for winter though so open to stretching the budget for any other recommendations!

I've got the fit flop mukluks boots -. They're like the ugg boots but they're a lot thicker and have a more substantial sole.

Ttbb · 18/09/2017 20:43

Please don't tell me that you are actually planning to wear them as shoes. What is wrong with British people?! Just buy some high quality sheepskin insoles for your real shoes.

BlueberryMarshmallow · 18/09/2017 20:44

I have a few pairs of emu boots and they feel really good quality and have lasted a couple of winters. I've never had uggs so not sure how they compare

MaisieDotes · 18/09/2017 20:47

Aren't you a charmer ttb Hmm

OP I have a pair of Celtic & co slippers (the bootees) and I hate to say it but I'm not mad about them. They're not a snug fit across the top of my foot, actually they're mismatched in how far they come up each foot.

Everyone else seems to love them though.

u32ng · 18/09/2017 20:53

ttb I get that not everyone rates the look of Uggs - I don't think they're particularly bonny to look at but I swear I am a bit raynauds in my feet as they are always cold and I really struggle in winter with numb feet.

So I don't really given two hoots if the chosen boot is a bit ugly as long as my feet are toasty.

I've got Costco "Uggs" - they were less than £30 and are super toasty and substantial - good, thick sheepskin. On their 3rd year, still look and feel great.

Fluffysparks · 18/09/2017 20:58

DN13 won't be seen without her Uggs, I think they may be coming back into fashion Hmm Good luck with your search OP, no real advice as they've always worked for me

I love my Celtic boots although have never had uggs so can't compare. They're going into their 4th winter now, wash well wih the special wash you can buy from celtic.I did buy new insoles for them last year and the feel like new again.

NashvilleQueen · 18/09/2017 21:10

I genuinely let out a little sigh of pleasure when I put my Celtics on. They are the warmest and softest boots. I love them.

DilysMoon · 18/09/2017 21:11

I also have the celtic slipper bootees and agree that they're not a brilliant style/fit, the proper outdoor boots are fab though.

DilysMoon · 18/09/2017 21:12

Nashville im with you, i wait all summer to get my boots back on Grin

I've found uggs from M&M are usually ones that aren't fit to sell in high street stores which is how they can offer such good discounts. I've ordered a couple of pairs of UGGs from M&M and always ended up returning them as they're never quite right and not like the ones I've paid full price for.

Maybe it would be worth trying them on in a high street shop and comparing them.

I bought these last year. I love them!

VanillaSugar · 18/09/2017 21:26

Placemarking. I need good quality sheepskin boot slippers that I can pull on and off quickly.

combatbarbie · 18/09/2017 22:26

I just got the ugg Wilcox from office, love them already

Maudlinmaud · 18/09/2017 22:35

I have the classic mini uggs in cuff and erm uncuff. I love mine and while not especially attractive, the clues in the name people, they are toasty toasty and super comfy.
My dsis likes emu best and thinks they are harder wearing than uggs.

Bluesheep8 · 19/09/2017 06:16

Another vote for emu, they also do them in waterproof and the soles are removable for washing. I've got a few pairs and they are much sturdier than Uggs imo

WomblingThree · 19/09/2017 07:01

u32ng I've got Reynauds as well and I live in UGG type boots in winter. The ones you bought don't sound right to be honest. I've never had or tried a pair that had sparse sheepskin from the start. I would go to a shop and try a few pairs on and see which ones you like the feel of, before you decide they aren't for you. I've got some Bearpaws from TKMaxx too which have lovely thick sheepskin.

For anyone else with Reynauds, I would always suggest wearing sheepskin boots with no socks, as it allows the feet to benefit directly from the wool.

PNGirl · 19/09/2017 09:50

I love my Celtic and Co boots but they're quite a different lining to my Uggs (which are short classics, 5 years old). The Uggs are quite fine fur whereas the sheepskin ones are a bit more "bobbly" sheepskin for want of a better word. The quality is very good on both but it's nice to support a British company!

xxxbingbunnyxxx · 19/09/2017 09:54

Love my rocket dog boots, as not a fan of ugg's either

olliegarchy99 · 19/09/2017 09:58

bearpaw boots - much better fit than any others I have tried. Think UGGs are not what they were and vastly overpriced and I suspect lots of them are trading on the name (and not original).

bingohandjob · 20/09/2017 14:51

Costco are selling their shearling boots from next Monday - got the leaflet. £27 in 3 different shades. I highly recommend them and if there's any issue with them, Costco have a great returns policy.

IsabelleSE19 · 21/09/2017 20:20

Another vote for Celtic - as a pp said, it's nice to support a British company. I've got two pairs of their boots, the bootee slippers (love mine), and the shearling flip flops which are my summer slippers and are amazing. Also got quite a lot of their clothes as they're often on sale, although the sheepskin boots sadly never seem to be.

Have been hankering after their waterproof boots for a while but they're £££.
