Any vitamins out there that actually worked on you?

I'm keen to boost my health and general wellbeing.

Amongst other things I'm thinking a few vits might do me good - have you had any success with them?

If so what were they and what did they do for you?

Thanks Smile

Ooh place marking too.

I am also taking vitamin D & iron primarily in the hope of thicker hair but not massively noticing anything.

RatRolyPoly · 18/09/2017 20:34

Folic acid fixed up my spotty skin a treat!

hollieberrie · 18/09/2017 20:39

Folic acid and b vitamins are helping with my mouth ulcers. The pharmacist recommended them.
I used to get ulcers all the time (sooo painful!), but since taking them just the odd small one and they heal up quickly.
Also I swear by probiotic tablets for my skin and general health too.
Good thread. Interested to see what others recommend.

Spatone
Biotin

peppykoala · 18/09/2017 20:42

Magnesium - I always think it does nothing, then stop taking it and suddenly realise I'm really tired - then back on it and the tiredness stops!

esk1mo · 18/09/2017 20:44

i used to get cold sores 3-4 times a year but have only had 1 in 4 years since i started liquid vitamin D3, im also only ill about once a year and barely get colds or anything.

im prone to anaemia so iron helps with that, and i bruised ALOT until i upped my vitamin C dosage.

i havent taken B vitamins for a couple of months and im starting to notice fatigue/irritability so i need to get back on that.

protein shakes helped my hair and nails grow Smile

aaannnddd... evening primrose oil lessened spots and breast tenderness around time of month.

esk1mo · 18/09/2017 20:45

ps. also magnesium spray, on legs to hep RLS

hungoverhippo · 18/09/2017 20:45

Magnesium- but use it as a spray on your skin rather than a tablet as its better absorbed. Really helps keep the tiredness at bay.

hungoverhippo · 18/09/2017 20:46

Esk1mo- crossed post Grin

gingerbreadmam · 18/09/2017 20:49

ooh liquid vitamin d3 for coldsores? might have to give that a go. is it save if ttc / pregnant do you know?

applespearsbears · 18/09/2017 20:50

I swear by weleda magnesium ok, notice a real difference with hormones, moods etc when I'm not taking it

sortingmyselfoutslowly · 18/09/2017 20:51

My brother swears by Berocca when he feels run down... he's a hospital doctor
I also take it with ano effervescent vitamin c if I feel a cold coming on. I'm an infants teacher so am in contact with a lot of cold viruses. This combo definitely helps nip it in the bud if I feel I'm coming down with something. It makes my wee fluorescent though!

Timefortea99 · 18/09/2017 21:02

Vitamin C - used to get loads of colds but not since taking this. I take a high dose - 1000mg.

Starflower capsules - when I was in late teens I had a rash along my jawline, both sides, for about a year. Kept going to doctors and they offered steroid cream. I read somewhere that a rash in that place could indicate a lack of fatty acids in diet and to take evening primrose oil or starflower. Within days of taking starflower capsules the rash went.

3DGlasses · 18/09/2017 21:16

Vitamin D. But I did have blood tests that showed my levels were rock bottom.

Within 6 weeks of taking it my energy levels were so much better.

Hairq · 18/09/2017 21:18

Has anyone get taken anything that's helped fairly dramatically with eczema?

cessie322 · 18/09/2017 21:37

Viviscal worked wonders for my hair and very quickly too. I'm on it nearly two years now and have twice the amount of hair I used to.

lokelani · 18/09/2017 21:37

Not a vitamin tablet. But I'm sure having green veg everyday was a game changer for me. I felt better inside and out. I started to crave my broccoli! I feel fuller after eating it reducing my picking at other snack foods too so that was an extra win.

QuiteLikely5 · 18/09/2017 21:38

Keep these coming!

I'm buying magnesium Smile

Is there any point in just taking a multi-vitamin that covers most of these or is the level of each vitamin / mineral too low?

lokelani · 18/09/2017 21:40

@Hairq I cut out wheat - that made a big difference to my skin complaint. I've also read lactose and even tomatoes can have an impact on skin. I found the wheat thing affected me whilst on a fad diet ahead of a big holiday so not the best medical approach but I was tested after. Perhaps speak to your gp about doing a diet that tracks and excludes potential triggers?

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 18/09/2017 21:43

Vit D helped my energy levels and joint pain in the winter. Zinc was a godsend when I had a cut that just wouldn't heal.

Also interested if anyone has found useful vitamins for eczema - Mr Kalinka suffers badly.

Izzydawg · 18/09/2017 21:57

Multibionta activate - it's a multi vitamin with probiotic.
After 2 kids in quick succession kept getting recurring tonsillitis started taking these and have not had any bad coughs/colds/chest infections or any infection since and that was 19 years ago 😂 They really work for my immunity
Also vitamin d from October to April as living in England it's not possible to get enough sun in winter and your body can only convert 20% vitamin d from food
And omega 3 oil 1000mg
