Any vitamins out there that actually worked on you?

I'm keen to boost my health and general wellbeing.

Amongst other things I'm thinking a few vits might do me good - have you had any success with them?

If so what were they and what did they do for you?

Thanks Smile

I would get checked first if you are actually deficient of anything. Of course vitamin deficiencies can have a lot of quite unpleasant symptoms, and appropriate supplementation can make a huge difference. But science does not show that randomly poping multivitamins is good for your health, quite the opposite actually.

gingerbreadmam there are different types, but D3 is the biologically active form that is made when your skin is exposed to sunlight, and is thought to be more beneficial than taking D2 supplements.

Right, I've been to the health food shop and bought

Sea Kelp (am growing my hair)
MSM

I fully expect to have hair down to my bum and the complexion of a 22 year old by next Tuesday.

PerfumeIsAMessage · 19/09/2017 16:07

I have started taking Menopace with calcium. I have omega 3,6,9 capsules from H&B, sea kelp and spirulina.

I think the menopause ones help a bit with tiredness... Have dreadful restless legs and achy joints though so am off to get me some magnesium.

SukiTheDog · 19/09/2017 16:27

I take H&B Sea Kelp. Looking back on pics my short hair grew fairly quickly to now, past shoulders in the past year so, They may have helped, not sure.

I'm laying off my Omega fish oils as my HDL was very high recently and whilst they're the "good" cholesterol, my GP said they can also be associated with heart problems 😐

I take Solgar VitB complex and Vit D for stress/and bones

ihatethecold · 19/09/2017 18:36

I take magnesium for hormonally uncomfortable boobs and pmt.
it works brilliantly.

St. John's wort for low mood. Absolutely astonishing how it's helped.

Vit D3 3000 spray a few times a week

notafish · 19/09/2017 19:25

Fish oils cleared up the dry skin on my feet.

exercisejunkie · 19/09/2017 19:46

Vitamin D spray! I have it on repeat order from amazon! It's amazing.

hollieberrie · 19/09/2017 21:02

@exercisejunkie please can you link?

Ktown · 19/09/2017 21:05

Omega 3 oil capsules: for skin, but I don't overdo it because of the vit A
Iron for fatigue
Vit D - fatigue
Magnesium - PMT

SukiTheDog · 19/09/2017 22:47

Why’s the Vit D spray so good?

esk1mo · 19/09/2017 23:28

suki some people think the liquid spray is easier absorbed than capsule. and some people dont like swallowing pills i suppose.

i use liquid in a dropper, just my preference

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 20/09/2017 07:50

Iron
B12
Magnesium
Chroma
Siberian ginseng
Vit d
Vit c

specialsubject · 20/09/2017 09:24

If you are an adult in the UK in normal health and not pregnant, and you eat properly ( good varied diet, plants, normal portions) then you need a vitamin d supplement Oct to march due to our latitude. Possibly year round if you are darker skinned or dont get outside.

That's it. All vitamins are the same so don't pay extra for brands.

If you are pregnant, a child, unwell, on a restricted diet or over 65 you may need more.

Wtfdoicare · 20/09/2017 09:25

I take magnesium and 5HTP, at night both of which help me sleep. I also have fish oil and vitamin D tablets during the winter months, and a high strength B complex daily, which gives me energy.

nickEcave · 20/09/2017 12:04

I don't currently take any vitamins but I would really recommend running to anyone prone to colds. I started running in January with the Couch 2 5 K programme and have not had a single sniffle since and I usually get a cold every couple of months!

Probiotic L-plantanum is helping my eczema. It hasn't gone away but is better. I take a capsule morning and evening.

I also take a multivitamin with probiotic in it every day, D3 most days, zinc for a cold and magnesium when anxious.

BackInTheRoom · 25/09/2017 09:28

CALCIUM. If you take this, were you diagnosed with a calcium deficiency? If not, have you googled the effects of too much calcium?

50ShadesOfEarlGrey · 25/09/2017 09:54

Spatone iron. The only iron supplement that I can take that doesn't upset my stomach.
Echinacea in tincture not tablets . Boosts immune system, particularly upper respiratory. Went from constant colds to no colds by taking this.
Have recommended it to other people who have noticed a big difference.

For cold sores take L-Lysine, a fantastic remedy but conta indicated if you have a fragile digestive system
Liquid Vit D3
B-12 important to get Methyl B12 dissolve in mouth type.

affectionincoldclimate · 25/09/2017 10:02

Biotin pills for hair growth. My post pregnancy hair loss was definitely helped by it and I’m growing a band of new hair around my hairline. It’s a bit freaky. My nails are also incredibly strong as a result.

Super strength vit C from Estra. I take loads every day and it has stopped budding colds and eased symptoms of cold sores

Vit B complex - gives me energy

OutToGetYou · 25/09/2017 12:07

I forget to take:

Vit D - a mouth spray (I remember that one as it's an easy part of my toothbrushing routine)

Starflower with added Vit B complex - for peri-meno symptoms, hair, skin and nails
B6 for energy and hormones
(these two I keep at work and have with my breakfast, so I take them 5/7th of the time, need to get a duplicate set as I am going part time so will need to take them at home)

Magnesium spray for helping sleep and prevent tiredness, I spray that on at bedtime.

OutToGetYou · 25/09/2017 12:10

My Vit D is the same as linked to above.

Just on this: "St. John's wort for low mood" - be careful if you have any hormonal contraception, it conflicts with that. I can't take it due to having merina coil.

goblinhob · 25/09/2017 14:52

Turmeric, fish oil, vit d, b6, milk thistle, and apple cider vinegar and quecertin (sp?) with added vitamin c.

Not sure if it is helping but have come off antidepressants and not been ill/had any colds in the past year I have been taking them
