Any vitamins out there that actually worked on you?

I'm keen to boost my health and general wellbeing.

Amongst other things I'm thinking a few vits might do me good - have you had any success with them?

If so what were they and what did they do for you?

Thanks Smile

I take:
Magnesium Glycinate
K2
D3
B12
Folate

I suffer migraines and find I suffer less taking this combo. I did my research first and have regular blood tests to keep an eye on levels for safety.

SilentlyScreamingAgain · 18/09/2017 22:41

I take loads, I don't think that most of them do anything but I'm loathed to stop at this point, just in case they are and one of my legs falls off without them or something.

Two things are in the certainly 'doing something' camp, the first is evening primrose oil, three days in my menopause related breat pain fecked off and hasn't returned.

The other was proper witchy magic, someone mentioned that MSM stopped blotchy skin. I bought a bag to qualify for free postage on Amazon and my joint pain went, I have to take fewer antihistamines, my blood pressure lowered and I generally have more energy. It's not even a placebo effect because what I was actually expecting was free postage and maybe less blotchy skin.

Spatone for iron
Hair Skin & Nails (always get comments about my shiny hair/long natural nails!)
Cod liver oil (I'm a runner, helps my knees)
Berocca - I wouldn't say I noticed when I started taking it but DEFINITELY noticed when I stopped!

Currently also taking b12 because I'm on ulcer medication that affected my hair and nails, the b12 sorted that out!!

DramaAlpaca · 18/09/2017 22:58

I started taking Menopace a month ago & I swear it's stopped my menopausal flushes. I also take vitamin D & I'm sure it's no coincidence that I feel better on it.

Nettletheelf · 18/09/2017 23:15

Sea kelp tablets made my hair grow like billyo. Useful knowledge for if you get a bad haircut.

esk1mo · 18/09/2017 23:48

gingerbreadmam a quick search of recent research states vitamin D is safe during pregnancy Smile

i take liquidSolgar vitamin D3 2500iu, you can find it on amazon, its around £10 but lasts 2-3 months!

NikiBabe · 19/09/2017 00:15

Berocca is hilarious. It contains so much of several vitamins that your body cannot absorb it and so it takes what it needs and the rest just gets excreted.

In particular riboflavin or B2, the majority of it is excreted and it turns your pee the colour of neon yellow high lighter pen. So whenever you take berocca you have neon yellow pee for a few hours.

Berocca is expensive and it basically just makes your pee very expensive.

Im surprised a hospital dr swears by it.

oldlaundbooth · 19/09/2017 02:00

Skin, hair and nails from Holland and Barratt really helped my nails. Skin and hair didn't look any different but nails did.

fustercluckery · 19/09/2017 02:10

Bee propolis capsules. I work in a public facing role and used to get so many colds and bad tonsillitis. I got these on the recommendation of a friend who's a primary school teacher, and I've not had a really bad cold or tonsillitis since.

I also take vitamin D, B vitamins, omega 3 oil and zinc.

Leavingonajet · 19/09/2017 03:54

Vit D has removed my joint pain and significantly increased my energy levels but I did have a blood test from GP that showed I was very low in it.

MumBod · 19/09/2017 05:20

Magnesium has all but cured my restless legs.

Vitamin D has given me very strong nails.

Lanaa · 19/09/2017 05:26

Collagen makes me look much more vibrant and younger. I can really tell when I stop taking it. Vitamin D is great for general tiredness. I also have a daily berocca.

FourEyesGood · 19/09/2017 07:07

I have a Spatone (iron sachet) every morning, with a fizzy Vit C & zinc tablet dissolved into it (with a bit of water too to make it less bleurgh). I know it's just anecdotal, but I haven't had to take a sick day in well over a year, whereas I used to get terrible sore throats (teacher).

CandyMelts · 19/09/2017 07:18

Vit c and d. If I take consistently my immune system is fab! Sometimes I feel the warning signs of a cold and the next day I'm fine. I commute by train, work in an open plan office, plenty of germ potential and only 1 cold in the past year!

PringlesPirate · 19/09/2017 07:22

I've started taking zinc and evening primrose oil in the morning for my skin and help my hormones after being on the pill.

Magnesium at night. Particularly when anxious or crampy

Veterinari · 19/09/2017 07:23

Vitamin D - everyone should take this, as a nation we're all deficient and it has a role in just about every bodily function.

Vitamin B complex - I have a malabsorption syndrome so need jabs but this helps to keep things topped up.

Omega 3 for brain function

Magnesium spray is on my list of things to try but not started yet

rubybleu · 19/09/2017 07:35

Magnesium & Vit Bs - I take a supplement called Megamag Muscleze which is very good quality. This is a game changer for me, so much better sleep. I get eye twitches if I stop taking it for a week or so.

Vit C & Vit D drops

Probiotics

Fish oil - I have blepharitis

My optician (who is brilliant) swears Cod Liver oil for dry eyes & is always very disappointed that I opt for fish or flax oil.

ShatteredGlass · 19/09/2017 07:40

I take a general multi-vit with cod liver oil, plus sea-kelp tablets.

A relative of mine was really suffering with tiredness and fatigue (falling asleep by 1pm most days) and has massively improved since taking vitamin B tablets. It's definitely not placebo effect as they have dementia.

Peppermeant · 19/09/2017 08:11

Daily zinc (25 to 50mg) has done wonders for my skin.

I always take calcium and vit D too, not sure they are doing anything but have done so since breastfeeding my first child 5 years ago.

Very interested in Vit D3 for coldsores as my eldest gets several every winter.

Botanicbaby · 19/09/2017 08:33

Reading with interest, can anyone recommend a particular brand of magnesium spray please?

MineKraftCheese · 19/09/2017 08:41

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, have skimmed the thread.

I have awful period symptoms and I used to get awful 1-2 day long migraines every month which left me bed-bound.

I started taking Feroglobin liquid twice a day and OMG this month's period has been a dream (comparatively) - no migraine or anything. It also gives me energy day-to-day.

It's mostly about iron supplement but it contains folic, b12 etc etc too.

Welshcake77 · 19/09/2017 09:03

I've been taking starflower oil which has really helped with PMS and have just started with B12 as am feeling so tired all the time.

Also interested to know whether a multi-vit would be better especially coming in to winter, for Vit C, D etc...or is it better to take them singularly? Anyone more knowledgeable who can shed some light?!

user1494409994 · 19/09/2017 10:00

I take a multi-vitamin with added zinc and have done for 20 years. I can get really bad mouth ulcers and this keeps them at bay. If I stop taking them, the ulcers start back again. They are superdrugs own label so not mega bucks to buy.

gingerbreadmam · 19/09/2017 10:13

thank you esk1mo. is d3 seperate to vitamin d? im new to all this and should google but you guys are knowledgeable.

i only ask as in my last pregnancy i never had a cold sore and thought it was some miraculous pregnancy side effect but it was probably because i was taking vitamin d Grin

woollychimp · 19/09/2017 11:21

I take Vit D plus calcium - the tablets contain both. This is following having aching joints and GP saying that she now takes Vit D over winter.

I've only just started taking them so am yet to notice a difference.
