Curly Girl Hair

I'm planning on giving CG method a try but just wanting to check I've got this right. I've bought a silicone free conditioner (honey and coconut from coop - really cheap!)

So do I literally just wash my hair with this? How often?

Do I ever use shampoo? What if I've been swimming or it looks greasy?

And then I have the pink boots curl Creme. So put this on when wet, plop (for how long?), air dry or diffuse and go?

So no brushing. What do I do in a morning when not washing hair. Literally just get up and go?

Sorry to be dense but feel like I'm missing something somewhere

I've been doing it for over 6 months and my hairs so much better.
Start by removing all silicone products from your hair, you can do this by using a shampoo with sulfates.
On wash day, cowash your hair by massaging your scalp throughly with conditioner, rinse out then apply another lot to to middle and ends and squish it in for a minute. Rinse.
On soaking wet hair apply gel and a bit more conditioner if you like.
Air dry or diffuse.
Refresh the next day with some water and conditioner.
Lots of videos on YouTube to help. Good luck!

I normally rinse my hair in the shower, use a generous amount of conditioner in the hair and pin it up for a few minutes. Comb it with fingers or a wide tooth comb towards the end of the shower and rinse.

Use a microfibre towel to scrunch the excess water out of the hair, avoid normal towels as they create frizz. Then either use an alcohol free gel or a curl cream in the hair to lock the moisture in. Scrunch them into the hair to encourage the curl. Dry with a diffuser on a gentle setting or air dry it but flip your head upside down and ruffle the roots to add body once it's dry. If you can really be bothered or have somewhere special to go, then before you dry it you can give each curl an individual twist to encourage the curl, be warned this is time consuming although once dry it looks amazing.

For next day hair, I normally spritz water in and then finger comb it, use a little more of the styling product and style as before.

You can use shampoos but look for the gentle ones, L'Oréal do a red pump bottle hair cleanser which is low foam and will remove build up.

It sounds very time consuming but it's not once you get into a routine.

Yes I do this try a FB group and you tube videos for tips and inspiration.
I have relatively short hair with mine I do as suggested above, I also finger comb mine in shower then use a very large toothed comb (almost like a rake in shower) bought a cheap turban/towel thing to plop. I usually plop for 20/30 mins then either go with wet hair or sometimes if cooler I scrunch it. I like Cantu conditioner in shower, followed by Cantu curl and pink gel. Results are fab. I dry my fringe straight for my hairstyle otherwise just go.

Thanks for the advice. So if I get the red shampoo I could use that now and again?
Do you wash (with conditioner) every other day and then wet hair in between?
And do you worry about chlorine and swimming?

You need to wash everything out of your hair before you start...

The boots curl creme is no longer curly girl friendly I'm pretty sure.

I don't swim, but I believe chlorine co-washes out, and if it looks greasy you just wash it with the conditioner.

I finger comb while I'm washing it and I don't put water anywhere near it between wash days, it doesn't like it. I put some conditioner on at night and sleep with it in a buff and it's good to go for 4 days like that.

If you're on Facebook join the group, it's the easiest way to find products that are ok.

I think it all depends on the type of your hair. If I didn't put water in mine in between washes it just looks really flat and messy, the water helps to revive the products and the curl for me.
I wash mine every other day but I could probably get away with less. You can use the red shampoo on an every wash basis as it's gentle. Oh yes and the curl crime from boots is a bit naughty for the curly girl method as it contains alcohol, but it works so well that I still use it, I just dilute it a bit with water so the hair doesn't go crispy, an scrunch it once dry so it feels soft. My hair is type 3 I think.

I don't know what hair type I have but it gets very tangly tatty. I rarely use water between washes as my hair doesn't seem to like it I sometimes scrunch some Cantu curl cream into it to freshen it up between washes. Whilst we all have curly hair different hair types and degrees of curl so we all find our own way and tweak it a little to suit our hair routine lifestyle. I don't swim sorry.

I use cantu conditioner and umberto whatshisface curl creme . I wash my hair and put a bit of product in it when it's soaking then I put my towel on it . When it's less wet I had more product and use a microfibre towel and plop it for about an hour then either air dry or diffuse . I can wash mine at night and sleep on it , I wash it about 2 x a week .
It's trial and error what works for you though, and in my experience it gets worse before it gets better !

Brighteyes27 · 18/09/2017 16:31

imjessie mine seemed to settle down right away. I am 52 so sweat a lot at night so find I have to wash mine every other day (for this reason) I plop but usually only have 20 or 30 mins to do this on a morn and as I am always hot a leave it to dry (which gives best results) then scrunch out the crunch or scrunch dry it which doesn't work quite as well on my hair.

imjessie · 18/09/2017 17:27

I hate boots curl creme , it makes my hair sticky ! Also the cantu curl creme does but I've seen it be amazing on others .. I have big thick curly hair , it's flatter in the morning but I prefer it like that.
