Three quarter length sleeves

My bugbear - three quarter length sleeves on dresses for Autumn and Winter.
Great Plains have lovely dresses but sadly, they have three quarter length sleeves.
It's only Autumn and already freezing.
Perhaps it's just me but, if my wrists are not covered in colder weather I really feel the cold.

I agree. Also, unless they're very tight fitting, when you try to put a coat on over them they ride up past your elbows.

Madasahattersteaparty1749 · 17/09/2017 09:59

I prefer 3/4 lengths interestingly my dds are the same and prefer short sleeved or 3/4 length shirts for school. The school is like an oven though so quite often their cardigans get taken off in school.

TheFallenMadonna · 17/09/2017 10:01

I prefer them. I roll up long sleeves.

Lucked · 17/09/2017 10:02

I like them as I can't wear long sleeve to work for hygiene reasons also I have very long arms and 3/4 is better than being a bit short. I don't think it affects how hot or cold I feel inside very much as long as my upper arms are covered.

3DGlasses · 17/09/2017 10:03

I prefer 3/4, too. I think it looks more stylish.

They're good for work, too, as once they turn the heating on in my building thats it - its boiling until about April!

The amount of sleeveless work dresses in AW collections in the shops, though - now that pisses me off!

Grimmfebruary · 17/09/2017 10:04

I'm an awkward sod who pushes sleeves up to my elbows on everything... I've ruined so many cardis! At least if it's already 3/4 I don't ruin the sleeves 😂

CatherineMaitland · 17/09/2017 10:08

I really like them as ordinary long sleeves are always too long on me.

Peppermeant · 17/09/2017 10:13

I agree that 3/4 length often looks more stylish

DavidPuddy · 17/09/2017 13:38

I think 3/4 sleeves look frumpy, like the clothes have been cut for convenience and cost, rather than style.

silkpyjamasallday · 17/09/2017 13:42

I'm another who prefers a 3/4 sleeve, or a bracelet length sleeve. I don't like having sleeves covering my hands and always push long sleeves up anyway. I like my forearms, wrists and hands and it means you can wear jewellery without snagging, and you can actually see it!

LostInShoebiz · 17/09/2017 13:56

I love 3/4 sleeves. Wish more stuff had them.

mowglik · 17/09/2017 13:58

I love three quarter sleeves, def looks more stylish than full length which can make dresses look frumpy. Interesting how there's such polarised opinion on this though! Grin

LoniceraJaponica · 17/09/2017 13:58

I'm like the first two posters. I work in an office with ridiculous aircon so it is always too cool, and unless my wrists are covered I am cold.

I think 3/4 length sleeves are pointless. If I am warm I want short sleeves or sleeveless, and if I am cold I want my wrists covered.

I have long arms and 3/4 length sleeves just make them look longer and ridiculous.

Clearly, people have good reasons for liking them, but they aren't for me.

museumum · 17/09/2017 14:02

I wouldn't head out in winter without a cardi anyway so 3/4 length sleeves on dresses are fine for me. More flexible in fact in case somewhere is overheated.

LoniceraJaponica · 17/09/2017 14:03

The problem is that so many 3/4 length sleeves are loose, and ride up if you put a cardigan on.

Feawen · 17/09/2017 14:04

I prefer 3/4 length sleeves. I like to be able to wear a watch or bangle without the sleeve creasing around it. 3/4 sleeves have to be quite fitted and properly cropped though - I think loose, longer ones can look like they're unintentionally too short.

PNGirl · 17/09/2017 16:52

Totally disagree. I wear a lot of this kind of dress and long sleeves make it instantly frumpy.

If it's cold enough that your wrists feel the chill, wear a cardi or jacket.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 17/09/2017 16:58

I really like three quarter sleeves, but struggle to find any in nice fabrics.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 17/09/2017 17:14

I'm always cold in the winter and hate that nearly everything has 3/4 length sleeves.
I can't see the point of it. I found a really nice fitted cardigan but on closer inspection that had cut off sleeves too! What is the point of a short sleeved jumper? (other than to make yourself look frumpy).

I'm sure shops only promote this trend to cut the amount of material they have to use. Grin

Whisper23 · 17/09/2017 17:15

I have long arms and 3/4 length sleeves just make them look longer and ridiculous.

This. I have long arms as well and I always think I look clumsy in 3/4 sleeves. They stop at the wrong point on my arms. My sister on the other hand has short arms and 3/4 sleeves look great on her.

herecomesthsun · 17/09/2017 17:41

I like 3/4 length

  • my office is really warm and I worry about "glowing" too much.
  • I do my best to get clothes with as much natural fibre content as possible. However, if there is some polyester in there, it is a lot better if the sleeves are loose/ short.
  • It is a useful way of showing a very small amount of flesh in an acceptable way. I have neat ankles and wrists and am happy to show them off. I used to like very short sleeved tops as my arms were slender and toned in my 20s and 30s but am not so comfortable with these now.
SchnitzelVonKrumm · 17/09/2017 17:57

I love 3/4 length sleeves. I have elegant wrists and hands and like to show them off. Also they don't drag over the keyboard when I type.

BananaSandwichesEveryDay · 17/09/2017 17:58

I hate long sleeves. 3/4 sleeves are just right - long enough to keep my arms warm but not so long that I need to keep rolling them up. I always think 3/4 sleeves look so much more elegant.

CountFosco · 17/09/2017 22:03

Another vote for three quarter length sleeves. Hate long sleeves that are too long (I'm short).

LoniceraJaponica · 17/09/2017 23:07

Long sleeves don't drag over my keyboard when I type.
