I've been lurking for ages, feeling brave now to post and ask for help!
I'm going shopping this weekend, I need help on putting together a staple wardrobe.
What are your staple buys?
I need quick and easy, I have 2 young children and I'm desperate to look semi respectable.

Really depends on your lifestyle! For me, I have 0 need for many office or formal wear. So really depends, also your body type should be taken into account.
Get some good fitting skinny jeans it and some good thick black leggings though, and a well fitting bra

I'd suggest going on Pinterest and looking at 'looks' that you like and go from there.

What do you need? SAHM? Work? Going out? Things that cross over?

Absolute basics for me are black slim jeans, smart tops that can go with jeans or work trousers/skirts, biker jacket, but there's loads more.

nigelsbigface · 15/09/2017 23:00

1 pair of good jeans, 5 good casual tops/jumpers, 1 casual skirt (that can be worn with the tops/jumpers), 1 plain, well
Cut dress that can be dressed up or down, good boots and a coat... apparently that's all your capsule
Wardrobe needs...I read it in The Sunday Times style
Supplement once... it's not advice I've ever been able to follow...
I do favour a skirt, little jumper, thick tights and boots (and coat) for winter though... but largely because I look awful in any trousers...

Dustbunny1900 · 15/09/2017 23:02

What is a jumper over there? A sweater?
Also op, what is your style?

white66 · 16/09/2017 09:54

Thanks for all your messages, to answer questions. I work full time over 3 days and wear a uniform to work so no need for office wear as such. My style is very much all over the place, at the moment I wear clothes at least 5-6 years old and out of fashion!
I love a casual put together look, I wear a lot of jeans (only problem I have is all my black skinnies fade quickly)and a lot of black which i would like to move away from but I'm quite scared by lots of colour!
I have a 4 Year old and a 1 year old so need practical, I spend a lot of time at the library or soft play etc.
I think I need some new going out things too but not as much as I used too, so maybe only 2-3 outfits for that.

Also body type wise I'm slimish but have a large bum! Usually wear a size 8-10

You can dye all your jeans black again in the washing machine with Dylon dye.

Just thought I'd mention that .

white66 · 16/09/2017 13:02

Can you??? I've never thought to do that! Will add it to my shopping later, thanks

Make sure you wash your jeans with colour liquid . Washing powders have bleach in and will fade them !

Kr1s · 16/09/2017 13:35

You need to weigh the jeans and use the right amount of dye powder. But it works really well. Of course you have to subsequenstly wash them only with other dark items, but most people do that anyway with dark jeans.

Google fall 2017 capsule wardrobe op, look at some of the casual ones..it's hard to say cause everyone's so different!
I live in form fitting soft knits..jeggings, leggings, long sleeve ribbed sweaters, camisoles and white tanks, white crop tees with high waisted knit skirts, bomber jackets and boots/flats/sneakers..but someone else would probably laugh at that, so it really depends.
