Tell me your polyester wearing secrets!

I would really love to buy a couple of pretty floral floaty dresses to wear with a leather jacket and boots over the A/W, but I can only find them in polyester.

Whenever I've worn manmade fabrics in the past I always feel really hot under the arms and feel like I smell horrible. I then can't seem to get the smell out. Can anyone tell me their secrets - how are you people wearing these pretty clothes and not ending up sweaty and smelly?! I wouldn't say I was an especially sweaty person!

M&S cool comfort slips help. I find it easier to wear poly stuff in winter because I can wear cotton top/merino base layer under it (vest type or tee if in depths of winter).

I really don't think there is a secret. It's cheap and nasty and refuse to wear it. My friend just bought a polyester top for £75 which to me is ridiculous.

There isn't a secret, just don't wear polyester. If it smells you can soak it in disinfectant, but nothing will stop you sweating.

stargirl1701 · 15/09/2017 07:11

Don't them. Every time you launder them, they shed micro plastic particles into the water system that are contaminating the planet. 70% of drinking water in the UK is already contaminated with plastic.

LunaTheCat · 15/09/2017 08:29

Don't wear polyester. I cannot believe that people pay big money for it. Buy less and buy better quality.

thedevilinablackdress · 15/09/2017 08:38

The only polyester I have is some vintage 80s blouses and dresses. Usually wear cotton underneath to help.

thedevilinablackdress · 15/09/2017 08:40

But, as PP have said, I wouldn't shell out for new polyester. There will be similar out there in better fabric.

ZaraW · 15/09/2017 09:14

I was reading about someone buying a polyester top from Comme des Garcons for a thousand pounds it's pure stupidity.

Thanks for the input everyone. I have found so many polyester etc dresses that I thought that I was the only one not in on a big secret! I'm now hunting for cotton tea dresses - which are TOUGH to find!

I have some polyester items , they are fine . I don't get sweaty or smelly ! I think polyester hangs nicely and washes so well !!

SeaRabbit · 15/09/2017 22:19

I hate the stuff too. I bought one blouse in it that at first did look quite good (£75-ish), but after about 10 wears it started to get a lot of static and then one day it just looked like a dishrag, so out it went. Cost per wear was very high. I will never buy anything in 100% polyester again.

AppleBosom · 16/09/2017 06:43

sorry to crash but can someone post links to those dresses in better fabrics?

CointreauVersial · 16/09/2017 14:46

I don't have a problem with it, although I'd avoid anything too tight-fitting, especially under the arms, and I wouldn't wear it on a warm day.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/09/2017 15:12

I won't buy poly, but have been looking for print dresses to wear with a biker for years and really struggle to find any none poly ones.

Judydreamsofhorses · 16/09/2017 19:40

I have loads of un-natural fibres - in colder weather I tend to wear a long sleeved top underneath anyway (like Uniqlo heat-tech) and just avoid things which are tight under the arms. I find they hang well and drip dry without ironing, plus I am generally not a particularly sweaty person anyway.
