Dying leather boots?

I have a pair of knee boots that are leather with suede sections in an oxblood colour which I would really like to dye black or dark brown.
Has anyone ever done this? Which product works and which colour do you think will cover best?
Any tips?
I'm a bit worried about ruining them as they are nice boots just not very versatile.

Dying leather is so easy I'm always surprised more people don't do it to change bag and shoe colour. I've used Dylon in the past and the one posted above, both were good. Here's a link to a dark brown.

I've used Fiebings leather dye from Amazon in dark brown to colour some light brown boots. It worked well after 2 applications but they were a matte shade and so I needed to shine/polish them which I'm not used to doing.

I've used Tarrago dyes on a few pairs of shoes in the past. One pair was a bright red pair which I dyed oxblood to make them more suitable for winter wear. I probably need to touch them up now, but it's been a year, so I can honestly say it holds up well.

Argh! I tried some black from the cobblers and they have gone a weird, streaky purple colour!!!
Hoping another coat will fix it.
