Aaaaargh. How long do your jeans last you?!!!!

I am so cross!!! My jeans seem to last me about 6 months a pair, of being worn once or twice a week. Then they get little holes around the back pockets and split down the arse. I wouldn't mind so much but the only ones I really like are DL Riley boyfriend jeans and they cost £180. I AM NOT A RICH WOMAN AND I CAN NOT AFFORD THIS.

It has also happened on a cheaper pair of Jigsaw jeans.

They are the type of jeans with a bit of stretch in them, if that makes a difference?

Is this normal or do I have some kind of special jean shredding arse?

Just to add, it is definitely NOT, I repeat, NOT, because they are too small for me Grin

Ummm - I have jeans that are over 10 years old, some more expensive, some high street. I have one pair, just one pair ever that developed a hole and I don't want to be the one to say it, but it was because they were too small for me.

Vixen884 · 13/09/2017 23:26

If I paid £180 for jeans I'd expect them to last a lot longer than 6 months! My primark jeans last longer :/

Iris65 · 13/09/2017 23:27

I have one pair that are 20 years old and have never needed repairing. They are Gap. I did have one pair that the seams went in but I had put weight on tbf.

TerrysNo3 · 13/09/2017 23:28

I was so fed up of rubbish jeans I ended up buying a £180 pair of Citizens of Humanity jeans. It has been so worth it, had them since January and they still look and feel new and fit perfectly.

So I now have two pairs of them and they are all I wear (jeans wise!). Painful to part with that much money but IME it's value for money in the long run.

SweetLuck · 13/09/2017 23:30

Seriously, they are not too small Grin. by the end of the day I need a belt on to stop them falling half down.

I find that dedicated jean manufacturers (Levi's mainly) - last a lot better than what you buy from the high street - Next, Top Shop, New Look etc. I think the denim is thicker. They're twice the price but fit twice as well and last twice as long.
Can't comment on DL Riley jeans as I have never heard of them, bit however good the fit, I think £180 is pretty steep is they don't wear well.

burnishedsilver · 14/09/2017 00:07

I've never heard of little holes in the back pockets and jeans splitting in the arse. If it's something that happens only to you and across different brands I think you need to look at what you're doing with them. Could it be to do with what you're washing them with? Do you cycle in them? Do you ever sit on anything rough, like a low wall?

Crispbutty · 14/09/2017 00:09

I usually buy mine from Sainsbury's. I've not bought any for at least five years and they are still absolutely fine.

Want2beme · 14/09/2017 00:11

If the expensive jeans aren't lasting, I'd stick to cheap ones that don't last. I buy cheap jeans and bin them after a year or maybe less, as I wash them every wear & they fade.

SweetLuck · 14/09/2017 00:18

Aaaah burnishedsilver may have it - I do a lot of cycling in them. I am so relieved that I am not in some kind of weird denial about my jeans being too small!

I just went on eBay and inspired by Terrys I bought a pair of Citizens of Humanity boyfriend jeans for £25 including postage from America. They look lovely. That is almost certainly stupid as they may not fit/suit me. However most jeans in a 29 do fit, so fingers crossed! I will re sell if they are no good I never re sell stuff of e-bay, they will go straight to a charity shop

Supermarket or Primark jeans here, last maybe 2 years. I wear jeans every day and alternate between 2/3 pairs. My Primark ones have lasted the longest although are now too small 😳

oldlaundbooth · 14/09/2017 01:59

I don't think I've ever had to throw jeans away because they are falling to bits.

And I buy cheap jeans too! Well, not £180 anyway.

oldlaundbooth · 14/09/2017 02:01

A 29 is a size 10, right?

I've a few pairs of 29's and think they're a 10 but good old Google is inconclusive.

Hairq · 14/09/2017 06:12

I wear stretchy jeans and generally have one one or two pairs at a time (I know most people have loads of jeans but I find it so hard to get them to fit or suit me). It doesn't matter where they're from of how much they cost, they only last me 4 months at most before they go at the thighs. Admittedly I have quite curvy thighs but I'm only a size 12 so not enormous. They always fit well as I'm very particular about that. I wear them maybe 5 times a week, so if I had more pairs they'd probably last longer IYSWIM. It's so annoying though. I feel like I'm always replacing them.

Mominatrix · 14/09/2017 07:54

How bizarre. I have never outworn my jeans - just given them to charity shops after several years of unuse. I don't wear the same pair of jeans repeatedly (I am more of a dress/skirt person) and definitely never the same pair on consecutive days.

What are you doing to them that they would split down the bum seam repeatedly?

TravellingFleet · 14/09/2017 07:57

It's cycling - they're rubbing against your saddle. I have exactly the same thing - they go in the inner thighs for me, where the jeans repeatedly cross the edge of the saddle.

If you do a lot of cycling it's fairly unavoidable, although my Banana Republic jeans have worn very well. It may be that skinny styles cope with cycling slightly better than boyfriend style, or I may be cycling less recently.

phoenix1973 · 14/09/2017 07:58

Ive got asda jeans over 10 years old. They last forever!
I had a similar pair but the knees wore through as i was on the floor with baby/toddler alot.

PNGirl · 14/09/2017 11:25

I get about 9 months to a year out of Topshop Jamies or ASOS or other £24-£40 stretchy high street pairs. That's wearing around 4 days a week. Mine wear through where my thighs rub together. Definitely sounds like it's cycling!

gingerbreadmam · 14/09/2017 11:29

i think river island jeans are well made. worth a try.

Oddbutnotodd · 14/09/2017 14:21

Could you just not wear jeans to cycle in? Or buy a cheaper pair for cycling in. I have realised that just because any item of clothing is expensive doesn't mean it will last any longer than a cheaper one.

burnishedsilver · 14/09/2017 14:34

A quick Google search suggests that, trees, it's the cycling. Apparently its a common problem but there is such a thing as cycling jeans.

Hairq · 14/09/2017 16:04

I'm now wondering if mine wear out at the thighs because I walk a lot. No cycling here but I don't have a car so I walk everywhere - perhaps that makes the bit where thighs run wear out quicker? I also have issues with shoes and boots because if walking everywhere - they wear out so much quicker for me thanfor friends who drive.

burnishedsilver · 14/09/2017 16:06

Trees? That should say yes.

TiesThatBindMe · 14/09/2017 16:07

I have never had a pair of jeans fall asunder.
