Aaaaargh. How long do your jeans last you?!!!!

I am so cross!!! My jeans seem to last me about 6 months a pair, of being worn once or twice a week. Then they get little holes around the back pockets and split down the arse. I wouldn't mind so much but the only ones I really like are DL Riley boyfriend jeans and they cost £180. I AM NOT A RICH WOMAN AND I CAN NOT AFFORD THIS.

It has also happened on a cheaper pair of Jigsaw jeans.

They are the type of jeans with a bit of stretch in them, if that makes a difference?

Is this normal or do I have some kind of special jean shredding arse?

Haven't RTFT but if something fails within 6 months the seller must give you a refund or prove it hasn't failed. Look up consumer rights act 2015

imjessie · 14/09/2017 17:20

It's probably because they are too big and you are pulling them up. This will put extra wear and tear on and will split the material .

Lexilooo · 14/09/2017 17:28

Do your jeans and your arse a favour and buy some proper cycling leggings/shorts/trousers. Cycling in jeans sounds awful, something designed for active/outdoor wear will be more comfortable better in terms of drying quickly if you get rained on and keeping you warm/cool/dry/not sweaty

d270r0 · 14/09/2017 17:35

Those jeans don't sound very hard wearing to me. Especially for £180! Try some nice £40 versions in high street stores. Thicker jeans will probably last longer too.

Nettletheelf · 14/09/2017 17:39

Mine wear out on the inner thighs because of my fondness for walking. I am not one of those thigh gap people so abrasion is inevitable!

snowgal · 14/09/2017 19:41

I've had a shocking time with jigsaw jeans recently, I've returned three pairs in the last twelve months for ripping apart in the crotch (could anything be worse?), I think the quality has deteriorated as I have pairs from a few years ago which are still going strong

whifflesqueak · 14/09/2017 19:45

My Levi's normally survive a year or two of really hard wear before a knee or back pocked starts to rip.

Which I though was not great actually, but 6 months for £180 jeans is awful.

Ttbb · 14/09/2017 19:48

It depends on the jeans. I had a pair of M&S jeans that were going strong for a full year but I had to get rid of them when I lost weight. My last pair to go was a pair ps Asda skinny jeans (six months). I'm still loosing weight post baby so I have just decided to put off buying any decent jeans until I am back to normal but after all this I can't help but wonder what the point is.

Ttbb · 14/09/2017 19:49

Oh, and I had a pair from next that lasted two years.

Maudlinmaud · 14/09/2017 19:53

J brand last forever, I swear by them. But I also like h&m jeggings jeans at a fraction of the price. I hear lots of folk recommending asda jeans that pull in all the squishy parts .

bananafish81 · 14/09/2017 20:43

I was fed up of my cheapo jeans going baggy after 6 months

I then spent an obscene amount (£190) on a pair of J brand jeans and I was a convert to premium denim

I thought 'jeans are jeans surely, how on earth can jeans cost that much'

Well turns out on a cost per wear basis my spendy denim has been much better value than my Topshop jeans - washes like a dream, doesn't lose its fit, doesn't fade

Investing in really good jeans has been worthwhile for me because I wear jeans to work, so wear them day in day out. Mine have lasted years and years - horrific amount but actually cost per wear better value than most stuff in my wardrobe!

My Levi's used to last me about six months , wearing most days. They would always rub through at the inside thighs which rub together as I am a bit of a heifer.

drspouse · 14/09/2017 21:07

I had two pairs of Fatface that did this. They replaced one but I gave up after that.

ReallyConvolutedCareerHistory · 14/09/2017 21:55

I think some designer jeans (especially the stretch ones) are made of really thin material. Maybe this is the case?

munchkinmaster · 14/09/2017 22:01

I'm so surprised how long people wear clothes for. I would expect a good few years out of jeans and re dye my black ones.

When I was younger I def had Levi's that lasted 5 or more years

MrsDeltaB · 14/09/2017 22:06

Eeek. Unpopular reply here I'm sure. Paying more doesn't automatically mean better quality. And yeah, cycling isn't the best thing for ANY jean due to unnatural strain on seams.

Also, fashion changes every other Tuesday so if you really want to remain 'on trend/fleek/point then supermarket or basic high street is the way to go unless you have a bottomless purse.

BusterGonad · 14/09/2017 22:28

This happened to me Op as my son liked to pull on my back pockets when he was behind me, they were the stretchy jegging type, but they were about £40 so not cheap cheap! Real jeans last me years, jeggings and stretch ones about 1 year, sometimes less.

AngeloMysterioso · 14/09/2017 22:37

H&M. Victim of the chub rub curse so I get through several pairs a year Sad

Feawen · 14/09/2017 22:40

I read the first pots on this thread, thought 'I bet the op cycles', and can see that he be been beaten to it! So U.K. add my voice to the chorus: 'it's the cycling!'

You could try thicker fabric with less stretch, but any jeans will wear out eventually with cycling. Even Levis, Wranglers and so on, that are supposed to be hard-wearing (voice of experience)

I buy £12.99 jeans from New Look, which I can wear for cycling into town/to a friend's house and so on. When they wear out I recycle them and get a new pair. Proper cycling trousers are great for serious cycling, but bikes are for transport as well as sport, and I don't want to go out for brunch wearing Lycra trousers with a padded crotch! Grin

Feawen · 14/09/2017 22:42

Don't know what is going on with my autocorrect Confused

Quickqu · 14/09/2017 22:45

My best jeans are some I bought from Me & Em about five years ago. Amazing quality and still going strong.

Also like my Current Elliott ones.

My cheap 20 quid Gap/uniqlo ones last one season then the colour and stretch goes and I chuck them.

SweetLuck · 14/09/2017 23:25

I genuinely thought that people were going to come on this thread and say 'Yeah, jeans don't last these days, it's a thing,'

Apparently not.

I agree that expensive jeans do seem to be thinner material, and it's that and the stretch that makes them comfy to cycle in.

Whilst I am a normal size 12 I have quite a curvy figure and quite short legs, so lots and lots of jeans just look shit on me, hence me being prepared to spend so much.

Am delighted I posted though, as I wouldn't have solved the mystery otherwise, cycling it is. I don't want to wear special clothes to cycle in as I like just being able to hop onto my bike anytime. Not sure what the answer is, am hoping these ones from eBay look good.

I will start looking at super cheap jeans too, and treating them as practically disposable. Feawen no, padded crotch not a good look Grin
