Races - this weekend - need outfit help!

I'm going to the races this weekend, want to get fairly dressed up, but it's going to be 13 degrees and potentially raining!

There is a performance after the racing, so will be an all day into evening event..

I'm a size 8/10.. did just plan to wear a pretty summery dress, but feel it's too cold now Hmm

Please help oh stylish ones!

It's a flat meeting I guess? think it's all flat in the UK this weekend.
If you wear a dress you'll certainly need a jacket. A wrap or similar will just be awkward and daft-looking.
Shoes must be comfortable and have a heel that won't sink annoyingly into the turf.
Just be warm enough and unfussy.

Have fun!

Is the evening event outside?

Unless you're set on going for the full Ascot royal enclosure look, I'd be inclined to go for a tweed jacket over a nice top, plus skinny trousers/jeans tucked into boots. Leather obviously, not suede on a wet racecourse!

You can easily wear a mac or coat over a tweed jacket if it's wet, and it lends itself to scarves.

M&S have got some lovely brown leather over the knee boots in, £99. They would strike the correct balance between glam and country practical.

Then if you go inside for dancing etc. you can take off the tweed jacket and look disco appropriate!

A bit like this, but not necessarily this:

Joules, Boden, Ness etc. all do this sort of thing.

So is autumn the point at which dress transitions from summer-wedding to tweed-horsey?

I have been wondering about this as thinking of going to a meet this season.

Nettletheelf · 13/09/2017 17:49

As soon as the weather turns crap. The thought of shivering in a dress and shawl on a wet windy racecourse!

Also, I think the summer wedding/races thing looks a bit odd in autumn unless it's an Indian summer, if you see what I mean.

The people I'm going with are all wearing summery dresses, this is why I was more inclined to go towards that. I hate being cold though.. oh I'm at such a loss.. I've got a really bad reputation for not being able to find something to wear and then not going.. feel like I've left it too late!

I've got quite a full skirt that I could wear (lots of leg coverage) then get a 3/4 length sleeve top? I've really left this to the last minute!

Thermal vest?
Flesh coloured tights?

Nettletheelf · 13/09/2017 21:27

If you are going to Chester races you will need more than one thermal vest!
