What 'going out' tops do people wear these days?!

Just realised I have a work night out next week. I usually wear a fairly baggy uniform at work! What tops do people wear to go with jeans or black trousers?

I'm fairly slim and used to just wear very fitted sparkly tops / vest tops but really can't wear that kind of thing at the moment as have gained a tummy over the summer.

Do I just go for a floaty sparkly thing? Ideally something I can get in a supermarket!

When in doubt or with limited choice, choose plain-ish...and black...but wear some great looking shoes and a gorgeous necklace/earrings plus a good bit of slap.

Black sounds sensible actually, thanks - at least it will be flattering.

That's it...and it can look great if it's a good fit and teamed with for eg. a beautiful silver necklace or something...big earrings and a nice hairdo.

Would navy be a colour that you might consider? A little softer than black, but still a neat and tidy colour that goes well with most styles.

A top that is slightly fitted under the bust and drapes out over a summer tummy might work if you are slim in other areas of your body.

Navy can look officy though....whereas black can be synonymous with sexy.

Thanks both! Happy with navy too as some people will be coming straight from work in smart office wear. Pretty slim elsewhere yes, so will have a look at those styles. Definitely need something that drapes!
