Pleated midi skirt - styling help

I've just bought a pleated midi skirt in a dark grey, almost purpley grey and I love it but not sure what to style it with. I am only 5ft4 so would wear heels but what kind of top? It's a little bit tight at the top , could I get away with a top over it or does it need to be tucked in? As I tried it on with a bodysuit earlier and I looked a bit squished into it! Pic of the skirt attached and all advice v welcome!

Marking place to pinch styling tips. I've bought something similar a couple of times but take them back when I can't find a top to go with it.

Love the skirt, it's a great colour

I'm no expert but I would say yes you need something tucked in, I can't imagine a style of top that wasn't tucked in that would go with it

I often wear skirts like that with a top that sits just over the waistline. I think it needs to be fairly slim fitting though. A plain tank/cami with an open jacket over can work well.

Gorgeous colour. I'd wear a slouchy jumper and trainers with it. If I need inspiration I find a street style search useful here.

Wear a vest tucked in with a waist length cardigan buttoned up over the top

Thanks for all the tips - really helpful. I've got some burgundy patent high heels, do you reckon they would go ok?

Thanks count - I forgot about Pinterest etc always good for inspiration. This skirt isn't my usual style, I live in jeans normally so it's out of the comfort zone!

I have a similar skirt in pink and wear it with a light grey short sleeve T-shirt from Boden - tucked in. I think the style is called super soft swing or similar. Plus a statement necklace. Simple but elegant
