Work suits for tall women

I've recently returned to work after a few years as a sahm and while I don't specifically need to wear a suit for me it's nice and easy. The problem I've got is I'm tall, with long arms. I've got a suit from m&s which is fine but now I've been there a few months I'd like to get one or two more. I have only basically shopped in supermarkets and stocked up on sale items for the last few years and just have no idea where to look really. I don't want to spend a fortune, and it has to be a trouser suit, I don't wear skirts. I'm a size 16 although sometimes 18 on top to fit over boobs!

Hopeful bump

You may not want to hear this but I've rarely found anything that fits (I'm 5'10/5'11)

M&S never does. Next has long trousers but an 'interesting' fit (might be ok for you) Hobbs is very good (arms and legs) but not cheap. I need to shop too and just can't bring myself to!

shushpenfold · 11/09/2017 18:18

Don't bother with Austin Reed (legs short and made for petite people)

Unicorn81 · 11/09/2017 21:30

Debenhams long trousers but not sure about suits. Newlook also do nice long trousers and if you want to invest a bit now to last a while Long Tall Sally

Chchchchangeabout · 11/09/2017 21:34

Long Tall Sally. I also found some Hobbs skirts suits fit ok but usually buy in the sale (they have lasted me years)

weaselwords · 11/09/2017 21:36

Boden often has long arms. Not sure they do suits, though.

helterskelter99 · 11/09/2017 21:36

I haven't bought a suit for ages as everywhere has stopped doing them that fit

Next do a tall range

M&S I find short

New Look have a tall range but I was too fat last time I tried anything from them

I got fed up so basically buy from long tall Sally

I'm 5'10'' also curvy 14/16 and have had success with work suits at John Lewis.

I booked the personal shopper service (free) and they found me a whole wardrobe for £450 as I was returning from maternity leave and nothing fit. This was over a year ago and I'm still wearing the clothes regularly- I've also added some more things. Totally worth it!

BluebellGal · 11/09/2017 21:42

Hobbs dresses are fantastic - I buy as second hand from eBay

theaveragewife · 11/09/2017 21:42

Next tall suits are very long, I think brilliant, but I don't wear them every day!

maz210 · 11/09/2017 21:45

Dorothy Perkins has a tall section, they usually have staple office separates but I'm not sure about tailored suits. Maybe try their website? Other than that Long Tall Sally will definitely have something but it will cost you an arm and a very long leg. Tall girls can be good too, I've got a lovely coat from there.

Battyoldbat · 11/09/2017 21:48

Ooh the JL shopper is a good idea, wonder when I could ever find enough time to go and do that.
I've had a few things from LTS but for some reason they just never fit me. I don't have particularly long legs, it's torso more than anything and their trousers always end up flapping on the floor. I think they may do a shorter length now though, I'll take a look.
Next are generally just bizarre fit. I did get a long length blazer from there which fits quite well though but you have to sift through so much weird fitting stuff!
Do Hobbs do trouser suits as well as skirt ones?

I'm 5'11, haven't bought a suit in a while but I do remember Mango being really good. Zara also used to do some long length trousers although not always specifically marked as longer length!

BluebellGal · 11/09/2017 21:56

Yes I agree about LTS - I think you need really long legs to shop there, I find shops that do higher waists best (JL M&S). I like Oasis for long line smart tops which are generous around the chest area.

The JL personal shopping experience takes 2 hours and saved me a lot of time shopping and taking things back! They can even do bra fitting (although I prefer Bravissimo). Can highly recommend as I didn't felt pressured to buy and I felt so confident going back to work that I got a new (better) job 2 months after returning from mat leave!

Ta1kinPeece · 11/09/2017 21:57

Long Tall Sally
but
also I (5'5") inherited a Reiss suit that was definitely beter for a much taller person

Passthecake30 · 11/09/2017 22:03

6ft here, I have worn suits from Next and LTS in the past. Next are polyester and look much cheaper than LTS, but, they are in fact cheaper I guess!

LTS shirts are good!

Passthecake30 · 11/09/2017 22:04

bluebell can you link to the oasis tops?

shushpenfold · 12/09/2017 06:34

I thought that LTS had gone?

Battyoldbat · 12/09/2017 06:44

I've just ordered a LTS suit to try out penfold so I hope not!

Excellent news....will try myself.

BluebellGal · 12/09/2017 23:28

Might not be everyone's cup of tea but they are quite flattering/ comfortable on fuller figure, taller ladies

Passthecake30 · 15/09/2017 21:36

Thanks bluebell, will keep an eye out, I struggle with tops a lot...!
