A coat with a nipped in waist?

Once upon a time I had a wonderful purple wool/cashmere coat from
Hobbs. It went in at the waist and out at the bust. It gave me a good figure even over a jumper and in a coat and jumper I usually look like a chubbi stump toddler crayon as I'm only 5'1 .

Now that coat has been worn for about 7 years and is finally too threadbare and tatty to wear plus I've gained at least a dress size and can't button it up.

Help! Looking for a tailored coat with a proper nipped in waist, nice wool/similar fabric, have about £300 to spend. Preferably not black. I'm too short to carry off belted styles.

no advice, but I was about to start the exact same thread .
my winter coat has had it, and I need something with a waist, but can only see the cocoon/column type shapes in the shops, and as a pear shape they make me look enormous.

I've got a Hell Bunny coat. Just a plain one with a nipped-in waist and fuller skirt. It's lovely but not very thick.

I saw this Joe Brown one yesterday which I quite like.

Look in places you wouldn't traditionally look for coats. My very best coat is from Damsel in a dress and my second best coat is from Coast.

Love that Asos one too! I ordered a Joe Browns one see my thread in style and beauty but it just wasn't for me.

Try the term 'fit and flare' coat. That's the shape I think you want. There are some lovely ones on google with that terminology.
