Eyeshadow with contact lenses

As the title implies, I wear contacts. I don't wear makeup often, but when I do it's usually cream eyeshadow as I've heard that's what you should wear with contacts. However, there isn't really much choice with cream eyeshadow. A lot are pearly/sparkly. I'd like to potentially wear makeup more often in the future (personal choice) and I feel like matte shadows would be more appropriate for day wear rather than sparkly stuff.
OK, I'm rambling. So: do I absolutely have to stick to cream eyeshadows with contacts? Would powder really be bad/have an adverse effect? I know there are some cream-to-powder ones, anyone got any experience/knowledge of those?

(I suppose sparkly stuff could be ok for day, I'd just like a wider choice of colours really!!)

I've always used powder eyeshadow, I don't like cream ones. I've never had any problems with my lenses and never heard/been told I shouldn't use powder products while wearing them so I think you would be fine using powders bit maybe get one/a small palette and try it out for a week before investing in a big selection.

I have worn contacts most of my life and am an eyeshadow junkie! Never cream as I find it wrinkles and cracks.

I have a couple of shades that turn my lenses pink, so I avoid those now, but otherwise have had no problems.

What type of lenses do you wear?

BinkyandBunty · 11/09/2017 06:30

I've been wearing contacts since 1989, I didn't know this was a 'thing'! I wear powder eyeshadow most days, never had an issue.

SnooGliffer · 11/09/2017 06:31

I've worn lenses for 29 years and this is the first I've heard of this. I've used powder shadows since I started wearing make up and never had an issue.

RJnomore1 · 11/09/2017 06:32

I've never heard of this either. 25 years of contact lens wear here.

It's what the contacts consultant said when I first got them and googling has revealed that others have been given similar advice. I wear dailies.
I'll look into powder then. Suppose I was prob being a bit silly...
What sorts of brands do you like/would recommend? I tend to go for rather muted shades (e.g. pinks, taupes etc).

I'm another one who's worn contacts for ages and have used mostly powered shadow with no ill effects.

Experiment to your hearts content.

If you like the shades in something like Urban Decay Naked 3, but don't want to pay silly money, one that I've been using a lot recently and have been very pleased with is this Collection palette:

www.superdrug.com/Make-Up/Eye-Makeup/Eye-Shadow/Eye-Shadow-Palettes/Collection-Eyes-Uncovered-Palette-Nude-Rose-6G/p/631302

You can get it in any branch of Superdrug and as you can see, it won't break the bank. I also wear contact lenses most of the time and it hasn't caused me any problems.

I used to wear daily contacts and never had a problem with powder eyeshadow.

You can also get some lovely matte cream eyeshadows. Mac paintpots are good and Bobbi Brown have a huge selection, so you don't need to use sparkly cream shadows if you don't want to! Though there's nothing wrong with sparkly shadow for daytime.

For a basic matte powder palette, try Urban Decay Naked Basics 2.

I've worn contacts for about 17 years and I've never heard this either?!?!
The only powder eye shadow I've had trouble with are ones with huge bits of glitter in!
