Would doc marten shoes (Or possibly boots, if I could get them laced round my bad ankle) look ridiculous on an overweight woman in her mid 30s?

I hope not, because I want some!

WisestIsShe · 10/09/2017 16:25

No! I live in mine and love them.

AdalindSchade · 10/09/2017 16:26

Not at all (I'm one of those and I have some!)

OuchBollocks · 10/09/2017 16:27

Oh good! Bad ankle is so swollen that only shoes or very possibly lace up boots will do this winter. What colour, do you think? I will mainly be wearing blue or black skinnies but might try for some pencil skirt/jumper/thick tights combos.

I've got purple docs and I've got 10 years on you. They are a classic, I'd only ever think 'she's cool' if I saw someone wearing them.

Bluesheep8 · 10/09/2017 16:47

Oooh I used to live in them in my 20's and have been starting to think I may need them back in my life! I'd go for oxblood red or black patent and wear with leggings or woolly/patterned tights with a skirt. I saw someone in their 50's-ish wearing a lovely navy pair the other day too...I always wore ribbon instead of laces in mine too to "prettify" them a bit. I'll be interested to know what you decide.

Bluesheep8 · 10/09/2017 16:48

I'm 44 by the way and WANT some!

OuchBollocks · 10/09/2017 17:02

I lived in them in my mid teens Blush black back then, but I reckon the oxblood would be a good choice. I won't get to a shop to try on for a couple of weeks (My 3 year old's diary is jam packed Hmm ) but I'll update after I've been. Shame the new Chelmsford shop isn't open yet or I would pop in on Tuesday.

I'm 33 and have 3 pairs. Classic black Pascal Virginias are very soft and flexible.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 10/09/2017 23:38

I still have my oxblood DMs I bought with my first wage packet from my Saturday job at 14. I'm 38 now! I have quite the collection of DM shoes, sandals and boots now. They are practical and comfortable.

OuchBollocks · 11/09/2017 06:59

Oooh the Pascal Virginia in dress blues is lovely

Bucking the trend here but in my case (I'm 40s not 30s though) the answer was sadly yes. I used to live in DMs as a scruffy art student 20+ years ago but when I bought some again this year I just couldn't get them to work. Instead of looking cool and alternative I just looked like an overgrown toddler Confused. I've reluctantly put them on eBay.

Wish I could work out why they looked so wrong as the suggestions here sound fab. Hope you have better luck OP.

LoadsaBlusher · 11/09/2017 09:59

I really fancy a pair of the DM Chelsea boots , think they are called Flora , in the burgundy .
Thought this would be a good compromise on Comfort vs style

OuchBollocks · 23/09/2017 16:03

@Bluesheep8 I got the Pascal Virginia in dress blues today and they're fabulous Grin
