Trench coats - why so short?

I am in the market for a trench coat (in Washington DC so it will get a lot of 3 season work wear). Am not up for a Burberry spend but could do say 200 USD for the right one. My question : why are they all slightly too short? I'm average height but they all seem to stop just above where my skirt would stop. Is it just me or is that super super annoying?! I don't want a coat that will only look good with trousers. Also, very busty - G cup, size U.K. 12. So need enough space up top. Any recommendations?

Because you would look like a flasher with it longer ? 🤷‍♀️..... I think they look much better shorter but marks have long ones at the mo !
