I'm thinking the bare basics that for everyday use that everyone needs! I want to make sure I've got everything! Not along the lines of workwear or dressy stuff but things such as ..black/navy skinny jeans, plain denim skirt, tan ankle boots, white shirt etc etc. Inspire me please!

Depends on your lifestyle and tastes - I'm getting into the capsule wardrobe approach, but lots of the items that often appear in these lists are garments that just aren't 'me' - eg black pencil skirt or camel coat

For me personally the items that are the backbone of my capsule wardrobe that I live in everyday

  • dark denim skinnies
  • black skinnies (I love uniqlo leggings trousers, I have them in black, navy and grey)
  • breton stripey top
  • Merino wool crew neck sweaters in black and grey (uniqlo)
  • cashmere sweater (also uniqlo - detecting a theme here?!)
  • white trainers (live in my stan Smiths)
  • black leather ankle boots

Plus outerwear for all year round

  • leather jacket
  • trench
  • wool coat

Shirts are an absolute staple of my wardrobe - I have uniqlo silk touch easy care in white / black / pale blue, plus a lovely soft chambray shirt

Pretty much everything in my wardrobe goes with everything else - I have a casual workplace so the above is for work as well as weekend

Project 333 and pinterest capsule wardrobe posts are brilliant for ideas

None of the above! Everyone is different.

I was also going to say... nothing!

So long as you have stuff for...

Work
Relaxing
Going out
DIY

And it all suits you, then you're sorted.

Anyone saying otherwise is being silly.

Things you like and feel good and or comfortable in. If they aren't in either of these categories they tend to stay on the hanger. Underwear that fits.

I will say that although I have a very relaxed casual style, I keep

a white button shirt and black skirt or slacks for any job interviews/court/funerals/anything professional or more formal.

I also keep a good fitting little dress for anytime I go out (whenever that'll be ugh)

Other than that I'd say shoes for work/rain/one pair of heels or flats, and good running sneakers.

A pair of skinny jeans and black leggings

some white Tank tops/camis/whatever they're called now. A really comfortable warm sweater and some thermal shirts for cold days.

black/navy skinny jeans, plain denim skirt, tan ankle boots, white shirt

I don't have those things. Tan ankle boots sound the absolute worst. Why not just buy things you like rather than what people say are "absolute essentials"?

Clean pants and a bra that fits properly. Although if you are young, slim and flat chested you'll probably disagree with the absolutely essentialness of a bra.

Otherwise as others say it will depend on your lifestyle. If you live in Scotland you'll need a warm coat, if you live in Maui not so much. Look at your current wardrobe and think about what you still think you need then buy that. Keeping everything co-ordinating works for a lot of people but others enjoy variation. At the moment for me I need a pair of leather shoes that cover my full foot but still look smart with a dress. Work has introduced a new safety policy and a lot of my shoes don't really fully cover my foot. But it would be daft to suggest that everyone needs that.
