Long dresses that aren't ball gowns or maxis!

I'd like to have a coupe of dresses I can throw on in autumn/winter without the need for tights. For popping out to do the school run really, as I work from home in my "loungewear" (ahem) the rest of the day and hate tights.

erm.... a maxi is a long dress - by definition

Do you mean 'to the floor' (what I would describe as a long dress), or do you mean something else, like 'below the knee' or something ?

How about wearing long boots and a dress. No tights needed.

Midi maybe? Longer than knee length but not grazing the floor in winter and soaking up water! Works with boots or trainers.
