What's your best ever charity shop clothing buy?

I noticed on my "What are you wearing etc?" thread that quite a few people were wearing things from charity shops (as do I). Someone mentioned that they never find anything in charity shops and I know a few people who say this. Me, I can't walk past a charity shop without popping in "to check"...so I just wondered, what's your best ever charity shop buy?

These finds are incredible. I'm in an area where charity shops stock peacocks, primark and Tesco clothing.

It'd be great to know which regions these great finds are coming from, I could quite happily spend a weekend rummaging in charity shops Smile

Yesterday I got a 100% cashmere jumper dress that looks like it's near been worn for £12 and a whistles T shirt with label still on for £5.

Pigon I feel your pain and I used to feel the same about the charity shops round here (nothern city). I used to get quite cross with posters who'd blithely tell you to go and try the more affluent areas - like I hadn't already thought of that!

I think part of the reason I'm now having more success is that I'm much more systematic. I target the best ones and I go in them regularly - and by that I mean a couple of times a week - because the good stuff is snapped up as soon as it hits the rail. However I can only do this because I no longer have any small children or (at the moment) care responsibilities.

I also think they have genuinely improved a bit of late and I put this down to people losing patience with Ebay and the influence of Marie Kondo, god bless her Smile

Oh my god- totally forgot about this.

My housemate who I lived with when I first moved to London (too many years ago) came home from clothes shopping totally beside herself ... she'd tried on a pair of vintage jeans in a clothes shop in Camden market. Found 250 quid stashed in a pocket.

She was a struggling actress, originally from Berlin, and scratching about, working shifts in coffee shops, in H&M and a pub to get from month to month. It was a particularly rough month I seem to remember, so I totally got why she kept the money and paid for the jeans (tenner!) out of it.

They were lovely jeans tooGrin

Yesterday I got a brand new pair of Joseph black trousers for £6.99. DH got a pair of new Church's shoes, which retail for £300-£400 for £8. We were very happy.

I think it's only fair that we also also own up to some of our worst charity shop buys. We've all been there, haven't we? You know - it's a one-off, if we go away and think about it someone else might buy it and it might be just the thing for that Christmas party and well, it's for charity isn't it...? And next thing you know, you've handed over £4.99 for some shiny, tissue thin Zara polyester widelegs with flowers on the thigh.

Anyone else?

I've just found a beautiful Toast jumper and jigsaw skirt. Both lovely.

However I also got an oliver bonas dress. Got it home and my arse (which has slid down my legs over the years) almost hangs out the bottom!

You win some, you lose some.

I bought a beautiful pink suede jacket for a fiver in a chazzer shop thinking I could get the smell of cigarette smoke out. Big mistake!

TimbuktuTimbuktu · 17/09/2017 22:43

I think the 80s jacket i mentioned before probably falls into my worst category as well. It is very very 80s. I like to think im cool and shoreditch enough to pull it off. I'm definitely not!

Also I keep buying mustard yellow things because they always look so good on other people, completely forgetting that they make me look like a three day old corpse.
