When can I start wearing tights?!

Same bloody dilemma every year. Sorry if it's already been asked, had a quick look.

I look rubbish in jeans but it's too cold for bare legs. Will I be way too hot in opaque tights?

Not for me yet, but I've certainly seen some women in opaques.

bookgirl1982 · 06/09/2017 20:39

It feels like autumn, go for it!

taybert · 06/09/2017 20:41

I wore mine for work yesterday. I was still too cold.

icelollycraving · 06/09/2017 20:41

I never stop wearing tights! I have varicose Erin's and I'm very fair. I'm much too self conscious in my work dresses to go without tights.
I love the colder months. In the warmer months if anyone asks I say it's my work dress code. Get those opaque son

WipsGlitter · 06/09/2017 20:41

In as wondering this too. Was cold in work today and can't be arsed with fake tan any more.

mrsnoon · 06/09/2017 20:45

I have to wear tights for work, only been a handful of days this year where I've been uncomfortable. Wore opaques and a long sleeved top today, felt lovely and autumnal.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 06/09/2017 20:45

Erm, never stop wearing them! I wear them in summer too; admittedly the north is cold but sheer tights are a no no and bare legs leaves me without a sock for my safety boots at work.

tossmeacigarette · 06/09/2017 20:48

I'm clearly overthinking it. Tights tomorrow, hurrah!

There's a letter 'r' in the month - therefore you're ok. I do actually live by that rule - madness!

Braveanddifferent · 06/09/2017 20:50

Wore them today, hate having to lose the sandals but it's getting cold.

PuffinNose · 06/09/2017 20:51

I wore 40 denier today.
My last pair of skintone tights (yes, I know) got torn this morning so thick black tights it is.

Judydreamsofhorses · 06/09/2017 20:52

Mine are on - lovely grey marl today, and Chelsea boots.

Timefortea99 · 06/09/2017 20:52

In Cornwall today - Padstow and area. Still warm and sunny so bare feet still rule! Thank god, hate tights.

So i can wear tights and eat mussels now. Smile

I wore a ski jacket in July seriously - we were that cold, you are fine to wear tights in September

BumWad · 06/09/2017 21:16

I wore mine today Smile

ilovecherries · 06/09/2017 21:24

Yesterday! Disclaimer - I do live in the Lake District.

applecatchers36 · 06/09/2017 21:32

Wore mine on Monday and liked getting out the winter work clothes, felt warm and smart, but it was raining when I got up. Like noticing the changing seasons. Bagged up a load of summer stuff for charity today. We'll have a heatwave next lol.

ThreeSangriasFloor · 06/09/2017 22:02

Cracked them out for work today. Lovely Grin.

My boss has a 'no black tights May-October' rule. I think she is bonkers, personally.

Paintbox · 06/09/2017 22:06

I do the same as your boss threesangrias! I don't go cold in those months, just wear trousers instead on a cool day. The reason I do it is that the winter is long and cold and depressing, by April I am
Desperate to get out of opaques so I make sure I def don't wear them
In the summer. It Mentally makes the switch between seasons even if the weather doesn't!

ThreeSangriasFloor · 07/09/2017 19:27

I do feel you, Paintbox!

I don't suit trousers, which is why I have to make that hard call to go into into black tights before it gets cold and wear them until it is definitively bare leg weather Grin.

tossmeacigarette · 07/09/2017 19:52

I wore some today (blue/almost navy ones).

Next step is to shift the wobbly tummy so I can reintroduce jeans!

hiccupgirl · 07/09/2017 22:27

I wore navy opaques with a sleeveless dress for work yesterday - was a little bit warm in the middle of the day but fine otherwise. Far too chilly first thing to be bare legged!

Pistachiois50pmore · 08/09/2017 06:23

I do the R in the month thing too, but wear 20-30 denier in April & Sept, and bare legs if it's over 20-22C. But this means i've had a wet summer in cropped trousers, basically.

On a side note, there was a Jess Cartner Morley article about this a couple of years ago, which I thought was interesting.
She's hardline on the issue, but it was odd because it assumed that wearing bare legs over the summer would be taken as a hardcore New York Vogue type power move that said "I get cabs everywhere". I'm sure it is if you're Jess, an upper middle class size 8 fashion editor living in London. But I don't think a bare leg in September would be read the same way in say, Bradford, where it would definitely look a bit more "Rita Sue and Bob Too" and the "classy" move would be to wear black tights.

Pistachiois50pmore · 08/09/2017 06:36

I'm from Bradford btw, in case anyone thinks I'm being out of order there!
