Does me, red lipstick makes me feel great and my face look totally different.
Statement jewellery is another for me and funky boots in the winter.

CheckingMyPrivilege · 04/09/2017 22:53

It actually makes me uncomfortable but bright pink blue-based lip colour suits me.

bbpp · 04/09/2017 23:07

No. I have very pouty lips and I think it looks better on "long" lips. It makes me self conscious that people are looking at me.

Nudes all the way, please.

travis45 · 04/09/2017 23:16

Make me quite paranoid, only because I have small lips. Would love to be able to wear lipsticks.

newmummysw · 04/09/2017 23:24

A really good red does, definitely. It makes me feel more glamorous and together. Any other bright colour though makes me feel self-conscious and daft.

MmmmmmmChips · 04/09/2017 23:28

I think if you've never worn it it can be so uncomfortable.
Start of either sheer or pay it with fingers or bullet to give a stain effect

endehors · 04/09/2017 23:33

It makes me self conscious that people are looking at me.

I don't know... I wear lipstick when the mood takes me (usually Mac Ruby Woo, the only shade I own, but I blot it away to oblivion) and some people do seem to stare. Makes me wonder if I've smudged it Grin

DH bought me MAC lipstick in Chili for my birthday last week and it's gorgeous. He chose the colour he thought would suit me and he got it absolutely spot on - it's a warm, brick red and suits me so well, even though it's right out of my comfort zone. I feel really confident when I wear it - I think DH might have found me a signature lipstick!

Liadain · 05/09/2017 00:32

It really depends on the lipstick and how it suits your skin. Go in to a shop and try a load (mac etc will sanitise them for you).

When I wear bright colours, I like to keep the eye neutral and the skin dewy looking. Too much and I run into drag queen territory. I like drag queens, but not as a look for myself at 11:30 on a Saturday morning Grin

Peppermeant · 05/09/2017 02:55

It takes confidence to wear them imo

MrsMarigold · 05/09/2017 04:35

No, I'm pale and freckly I look a bit silly in statement make-up. I prefer a glowing fresh faced quite sheer look, all very natural, just a subtle improvement on what I have.

sofato5miles · 05/09/2017 05:00

I started wearing red lipstick and mascara about a year ago, at 47. It has definitely improved my look and attitude.

BarchesterFlowers · 05/09/2017 05:59

I'm with mrsmarigold, I would feel daft/absolutely prefer a more natural look.

Nuttynoo · 05/09/2017 06:56

I used to always go with pink/burgundy and then Nadiya Hussain came on TV and all of a sudden I need coloured lipsticks in my life.

BusterGonad · 05/09/2017 07:24

Nothing makes me feel as confident as wearing a bright lipstick does!
When I had my driving text I made sure I wore a lovely lipstick to give me that extra boost!

MsRight · 05/09/2017 07:27

I have worn red lipstick about three times in my life. It makes me feel self-conscious. I always always wear eye make up but if I left anything off, it would be lipstick and I never bother reapplying it during the day.

I wear reds and plums and love wearing them. Brightens me and my mood up.

Bluntness100 · 05/09/2017 08:29

Wearing make up gives me confidence, smooths out skin tone, just makes me look better but not bright lipstick.

On paper, I'd be the prime candidate for it, I'm from a Mediterannean family, so dark hair, pale, sallow skin, but I look like a total clown. I bought one of the Mac reds awhile ago, put it on and it didn't look good. Nudes for me all the way. When I'm tanned I need a darker colour, but still nothing bright.

I suspect part of it is also what you're used to. Possibly it was such a departure for me, I just felt very self conscious.

MadisonAvenue · 05/09/2017 08:30

My favourite lipstick is Mac's Tropic Tonic, although I blot it down a fair bit. It really does brighten up my face, I'm pale and it makes me look less washed out, and I think it makes me look younger. So, to answer your question, yes. A brighter lipstick makes me feel better about myself and boosts my confidence.

EraArils · 05/09/2017 10:33

I'm low contrast, grey/white hair, pale skin and grey eyes. Sounds ghostly and it is except I still have dark eyelashes and eyebrows, thankfully. A swipe of MAC red lipstick and my face is instantly brighter. Confidence restored.
I always keep several bright lipsticks in the car in case of a lipstick fade emergency.

Runningpear · 07/09/2017 19:32

Yes I love red & berry coloured lipstick. I am very dark haired, blue eyes & pale skin. I also love chunky silver jewellery, both things give me s boost.
