Does anyone else dream of their ideal coat?!

Mine would be something like this from Collectif - fit and flare with buttons all the way up! here But in dark green maybe even green tweed and more wool and less artificial fibres.

Anyone else?

I'd like a perfect parka, waterproof, oversized but not ridiculous, with a huge hood that magically stays up when it's windy and a fat fur trim.

Floisme · 04/09/2017 22:11

Oh God yes, I have a dream coat every autumn. In fact this year I have 2: a men's greatcoat in Harris tweed but in a women's size 8-10 plus a long raincoat like Columbo used to wear which must also be in a very particular shade of beige - the only shade that suits me.

SimplyNigella · 04/09/2017 22:18

Mine is my biggest non-purchase regret- Rick Owens black Origami coat. Around 10 years ago in the NAP sale, I had the money and they had my size but I didn't buy it. I still think about it now.

I have really wanted an emerald green woolen knee-length coat for years. But I'm very tall so would need to fit well with long enough sleeves.

Ihavepatrick · 04/09/2017 22:37

Nigella Shock

MrsPear · 04/09/2017 23:00

imogenTubbs yes sleeves. I'm not tall but have long arms and the amount of coat sleeves that end before my wrist is maddening.

Mine is a North Face one.

£160. Cant afford it Sad

EnidButton · 04/09/2017 23:33

That is a beautiful shape MrsP. I love proper coats. Always spent the most on coats and boots. I figure they get worn the most (I'm up North.) so can justify it that way.

I'd like a tailored wool one, very similar to the Collectif one but maybe a bit shorter and not quite as full skirted. A deep red berry colour would be gorgeous.

Floisme there is a very nice tweed coat in the JW Anderson Uniqlo preview - except for a fussy looking tie bit at the wrists, but I'm sure that could be removed: Here

Oooh I have a couple of Collectif coats. I have a navy Pearl and an oxblood Pearl, as well as some of the light summer flared coats. The shapes are lovely but be prepared to re-sew all the buttons back on yourself because they are never attached very well. (I tend to get the coats on sale out of season.)

BikeRunSki · 05/09/2017 07:57

I have my perfect coat. It took 3 years to save up for it. Toast cold weather parka. Smartish, casualish, warm, water resistant. Big hood, big pockets. Wore it constantly from October to April last year and looks brand new. Looks like I'll need to get it out today! But it wasn't cheap!

Floisme · 05/09/2017 08:14

You know what faustina I had dismissed that coat because of the sleeve trimming plus I wasn't sure about the belt but you've got me looking again and you're right, the sleeve thing will probably come off (annoyingly the men's version doesn't have it) and it probably doesn't need the belt either. Thank you!

The trenchcoat looks good too but it's the wrong beige so I'm safe!

Toast have also got a dreamy tweed coat which I initially thought was the wrong shape but probably isn't ...

I'm watching mad men at the moment
And I'm obsessed with their coats! So beautiful

ExConstance · 05/09/2017 09:06

At the moment it is this one by Toast. Big enveloping warm and light being my main considerations. It is very expensive so I might wait til the sale or ebay some stuff to contribute to the purchase.
