Help - Im a single mum approaching 50 and have lost my way - Hair, clothes etc.

I need to lose weight (currently a size 20 ) and am trying to get to grips with this but there are other areas where Im not sure what direction I need to go so seeking advice from the wise women of mumsnet 1 step at a time

Hair - greying (but dyed) and while I have loved long hair it now seems to end up with it pulled into a ponytail or bun (and never achieve those glossy examples in the magazine) - I need something professional and easy to do (look after).

Any suggestions? I can do a pic ( though I hate photos of myself)

One step at a time is sensible, choose something, sort it out to your satisfaction, then think about the next thing.

Get a good haircut, do you have a stylist you trust? If not ask for recommendations from people whose hair you like. Then go to them for a trim (nothing drastic) to give them a chance to get to know you and your hair before you start talking about a change. In the meantime are you happy with your colour and condition and can you do anything about them if not? How groomed are you generally? Would you feel better with your eyebrows shaped or a manicure? Then do it. But if you don't care don't worry about it. You want to feel comfortable.

Do you do any exercise? Try different things until you find something you enjoy then do it regularly and make it part of your life.

Drink only water (she says with a glass of wine next to her!) and eat as many vegetables as possible. The three S diet seems sensible: no sugar, snacks or seconds.

As far as clothes go look around for blogs you like or go on Pinterest for inspiration then buy similar things. You could go to a department store to see a stylist or for a less pressure approach sign up to Try Tuesday to get regular ideas from M&S.
