Stretch marks- anything stop them? Dd (12) is getting them.

Dd has an underactive thyroid and didn't grow for a while, now she is growing quite quickly and suddenly has stretch marks on her legs and hips. (I also got them during my teen growth spurt, although not as many. I hardly got any while pregnant though, only a few on my hips). Could she be deficient in something? I don't know why some people get them and some not? DH has a few on his hips from his teen growth spurt too.
I'm happy to buy her a cream or something if it will help her not get any more, or stop the ones she has from getting any bigger. I used a cream when pregnant that may have worked, so I might buy her that, but my last pregnancy was a decade ago so maybe tech has moved on?

Bio oil morning and night should help and they will probably fade in time.

I got them in a growth spurt too - they were horrid but you can't see them anymore. I think you just have to give it time, which isn't what a 12yo wants to hear.

I didn't get any in pregnancy either.

Does Bio-oil work then? I bought some when I was first pregnant but at the time it was mainly liquid paraffin so I decided not to use it.

Unfortunately there's no evidence that any cream works on stretch marks, they form in deep layers of the skin where no cream can reach.

I have loads from growth spurt, got none in pregnancy.

They fade over time, but in the meantime reassure her it is perfectly normal - I hated indoor PE as it was gym knickers for girls, showcasing the bright red lines on my thighs!
