Warm, waterproof school run winter coat

I'm looking for a warm waterproof coat for the school run, stylish as an added bonus. As I'll be pushing a pram it needs a hood that stays up, but without hanging down in front of your eyes.

I've got a joules coast style jacket (from m&co) in coral which has served me well over the spring/summer term but won't be warm enough for winter.

I've been looking at joules stormont but only one review, anyone got one?

Willing to spend up to £150 but prefereably less.

Have a look at Seasalt. They have several different styles of waterproof coats. I have a winter and a spring coat and love them both. The winter one in particular is really warm, hood stays up, properly waterproof, sleeves long enough to cover hands.

Sounds perfect magpies, I'll have a look at sea salt now, thanks.

I love fatface coats... soooo warm and they look good too!

Lindtnotlint · 03/09/2017 21:46

Was coming on here to say Seasalt...

MummaGiles · 03/09/2017 21:48

I bought a joules Stormaway waterproof coat last autumn (October) and its perfect for what you describe. I remember when I was looking last year not all the coats/weather-wear has been released in early September.

Longhairmightcare · 03/09/2017 22:02

Any particular seasalt coat recommended? I've been looking at the 'plant hunter' and 'Janelle Il'

I can't find the joules stormaway, maybe discontinued, good point about them not all being out now though. maybe I'll wait until October payday to buy and do a shortlist. I'm not good with delayed gratification though Grin

My Seasalt raincoat has been great. Totally waterproof with a hood that stays in place. Bought it three years ago in 50% sale.

Longhairmightcare · 04/09/2017 11:00

Flissfloss thanks, do you know which seasalt coat it was?

For warner days I have a Skogstad navy raincoat. For winter this year I have a Didriksons Mary parka type coat.

flissfloss65 · 04/09/2017 12:21

Sorry can't remember name but it's a parka style coat. The rain just rolls of it.

Mine is a plant hunter in pool. I don't think the full winter range is on the website yet. Look out for discounts too. Sign up to their newsletter and periodically there is 30% off though I ended up paying full price as I got fed up waiting and really needed a new coat!

SabrinaSalem · 04/09/2017 22:18

I had the Joules stormaway coat last year too; just had a look on their website and this is pretty similar:

CharlieBoo · 04/09/2017 22:21

Had a lovely winter coat from joules last year too.. navy padded with fur hood... was so warm.. expensive but great quality and will do me again this year

SabrinaSalem · 04/09/2017 22:23

Oh, just realised you linked to that one in the OP! That'll teach me to read the whole thing.

The only thing I don't like about my stormaway is that the fleece lining is a bit too warm and I overheat. I don't think it gets cold enough down south to really appreciate it!

MistyMinge · 04/09/2017 22:28

I had the same coat requirements as you, and ended up buying the fat face Cheshire jacket. Really pleased with it.

Longhairmightcare · 07/09/2017 07:50

Thanks all. Got a good shortlist. Have to wait until pay day now, spent all my 'spare' money this month already oops.

I just got the Stormont. I love it! Not been out in the rain yet though. It seems well made. I also found a 20% off code which helped.

Longhairmightcare · 07/09/2017 12:51

Thanks, 20% off code would certainly help! I'll keep my eyes peeled.

One last thing, I'm a large size 10, or small size 12 dependant on shop/garment, would you say the joules sizing is generous or tight? Thanks

OP posts:
BringMeTea · 07/09/2017 13:14

It's true to size. I would probs get a 12 for jumper room.
