Jumper dresses? Yay or nay for this year?

I always liked the look of them and thought they looked comfy too but never got round to getting one.

What are they actually made out of? How much to spend/where to buy? And what the hell do you wear under them? A tshirt? A silk slip thingy?

Many thanks!

Do you mean a woolly one or a sweater type fabric?

I have a cable knit charcoal from Bench that I love with all my heart. Wear it with a beanie hat, coloured tights, and suede Chelsea boots. I've just bought a grey sweater type fabric one from Zara and I love it, but it's clinging to my tummy a little - I need to lose a few pounds, I'm at that stage where I fit into my clothes but my shape is a bit wrong. Once I've got rid, I have high hopes that it will look lovely with my converse Grin

I like the style but find them hot and itchy.

JaimesGoldenHand · 02/09/2017 21:36

I wear with a slip under to alleviate the itchiness but my arms and upper chest still itch. And I'm still hot.

sortingmyselfoutslowly · 02/09/2017 23:06

I wear a long vest under them and thick tights or leggings. Go for cotton and no itchiness!

@custardcreamplease your Zara dress sounds fab, do you have a link you could share?

I'd love a jersey sweatshirt material dress, but ideally without a hood. Has anyone seen anything?

Bluesheep8 · 03/09/2017 08:21

Hi Jelly, I've got a couple of sweatshirt material dresses. One is grey and from Sainsbury's, the other is a faded heather colour from Primark, it was available in an oatmeal colour too. From personal experience, I'd say size up in Sainsbury's and size down in Primark. I'll be interested to see other suggestions as I now want another!

Not usually a fan but may have a look for one this year. Baby due end of sept so will probably want something quick to throw on and comfy!

Bluesheep8 · 03/09/2017 08:43

Oh and jumper dresses-definitely yay, I,'ve got a few and just wear a vest underneath. Always look forward to the colder weather so I can wear them with leggings/opaque tights and knee length boots-love 'em

motmot · 03/09/2017 08:52

It's freezing here in the winter so jumper dresses are great. I wear wool ones and have one from white company (it was a gift!)

Only thing ememem84 is they aren't usually very good for breastfeeding!

hippadoppaloppagorillapig · 03/09/2017 09:09

I love knitted jumper dresses, I've got them from everywhere. Tights & boots are my go to look. I feel the cold & I wear a vest top underneath & don't get hot or itchy.

mammmamia · 03/09/2017 10:18

I love them for autumn and winter. I wear with a vest top and leggings and boots or converse.

taybert · 03/09/2017 10:25

I really like them but a quick browse online doesn't really show many I fancy this year.

ememem84 · 03/09/2017 10:43

motmot good point. Hadn't considered that. Although not sure yet if that's the way I'll go. But better to be prepared in case...

I'm planning on investing in this one if I remember on payday!

em you can always wear leggings rather than tights and a top underneath, but wriggling a dress all the way up whilst juggling hungry baby can be tricky!

ChickenVindaloo2 · 03/09/2017 13:04

Ooh, thanks so much for all the jumper-dress tips and chat! I love the idea of a sweatshirt material type one.

Can't wait for it to get cold(er)!
