Another Castor Oil one but - WOW! If you're hair is on the thin side, try it!

I have been losing hair for a long time now due to my bloody thyroid issues. It was quite fine but there was a lot of it, but now I can see my parting is wider, my scalp is starting to show through at the front, and my hairbrush needs cleaning every three days or so. Small handfuls of hair seemed to come out with every shower and my hair was often flat and lifeless. It was stressing me out no end.

I had been Googling ways of possibly helping and so took the plunge and bought some Castor Oil.

Last night I looked like I had stuck my head in a chip pan, it was a bugger to apply (I have just bought some sweet almond oil so I can make it a bit easier to use in future) but once I had put it in a plait it was okay.

Washing it out this morning with my usual Aussie shampoo it felt different already. Soft and healthy (I am due a cut but want to wait till next week when it's my birthday) and, bizarrely, my parting already looks a lot less sparse. I presume the extra conditioning has made the hair already there a bit thicker, which is something I didn't think would be so obviously possible especially not without making it heavy or greasy. I am generally very sceptical of these things and find results are often not a patch on what I might have hoped from reading up first, but not this time!

I am over the moon! Not sure yet if it will encourage growth too but if the success of the first application is anything to go by I might be a rival for Rapunzel by Christmas! If you're in a similar position as me, try it!

The Elasticiser which has a bit of a cult product status is mainly castor oil based.

whyhastherumgone · 31/08/2017 12:22

Interesting OP thanks for sharing - I'm curious about the almond oil - are you going to mix them together and apply? Which almond oil and castor oil did you get?

Maudlinmaud · 31/08/2017 12:27

I have really fine hair, used to have lots of it but not anymore, it's definitely more sparse. When I wear my hair up in a ponytail I notice. I'm going to try this. Thank you.

I had a bald spot on one of my eyebrows that had been there for yonks. Castor oil sorted it.

I'm interested in this. Which one did you buy OP?

CallySinammon · 31/08/2017 12:40

Black Jamaican castor oil is supposed to be the most effective type.

KatyBerry · 31/08/2017 12:41

I just bought castor oil for my eyebrows and eyelashes; I'm stupidly not sure how to apply for lashes - along the lashline or down the length of the lashes? it's incredibly thick stuff so hard to do with great precision and i'm concerned i'll end up with mega eyebags from it smearing under my eyes at night.

CallySinammon · 31/08/2017 12:43

Just smear it on all over the lashes using your fingers. I can't see it causing eye bags! You don't need to use loads, just enough to coat the lashes.

PaulDacresButtPlug · 31/08/2017 13:09

this one The almond oil that's due today is also the same make. I found the castor oil extremely sticky rather than oily so it's very hard to cover my hair. Apparently the Almond oil will make it a lot easier to apply thoroughly.

katy next time you're near a beauty counter nick one of the disposable mascara wands they use for makeovers. Then u can get it root to tip with no mess!

PaulDacresButtPlug · 31/08/2017 13:13

Looking more closely, my parting is less obvious / shiny along the middle where I applied the oil thickly than it is to the side where I was unable to get as much on without my whole head getting unmanageably sticky. So, basically, I can tell where it's been! I am hoping the almond oil will make it possible to get a more even coverage

PaulDacresButtPlug · 31/08/2017 13:16

Ooooh moreismore I'll do that too!

Just seen the price of the Elasticiser - think I'll stick with my castor oil!

So did you massage it into your scalp? I've just been reading that's what you are supposed to do. I would have made the mistake of just putting it through the lengths.

PaulDacresButtPlug · 31/08/2017 13:31

No, I couldn't massage it as it's so sticky. It isn't really very oily, not like, say, olive oil. That's why I've now bought some sweet almond to mix with it

OP posts:
CallySinammon · 31/08/2017 13:32

It's very viscous. But it needs to get to the follicle, that's the whole point.

PaulDacresButtPlug · 31/08/2017 13:37

I ended up having a load down my centre parting but then, due to the stickiness, unable to get much more directly on my scalp. I put some on the lengths too though as that's was easy enough.

Thank you for this thread. I have just found the oils cheaper than on Amazon here

www.enaissance.co.uk/

Maudlinmaud · 31/08/2017 13:57

Paul I wonder if it was the brand you used that is sticky. I thought it would be more, you know, oily. I'm going to buy some anyway and mix it with almond oil. I think I saw the Philip Kingsley stuff on all beauty for a fraction of that price. I love that website, so many bargains.

CallySinammon · 31/08/2017 14:01

All castor oil is thick and viscous.

Maudlinmaud · 31/08/2017 14:05

Thanks Cally. Shows what I know.

Nuttynoo · 31/08/2017 14:08

I use coconut oil and get the same result - thick well conditioned hair. Caster oil doesn't often work for Asian hair.

BanyanTree · 31/08/2017 14:15

I bought a 500ml bottle of Elasticiser for £62 from John Lewis. Normally it is £30+ for 150ml. It is not available on line but I found it on the shelf in my local JL.

Maudlinmaud · 31/08/2017 14:27

@BanyanTree 500 ml of elasticizer is £49.95 on all beauty. A small bottle is under £15, I might order it if it's good?
Do you recommend?
