Please help me find a coat for dd

Ok, I have this struggle every year. Dd3 is autistic and has sensory issues, and finding a winter coat can be a nightmare!
She is scared of any fur or fluff or fleece, and this year I'm finding it harder than before to find a nice winter coat that doesn't have at least one of the above. Most have either a fur good, fleece lining or sheepskin collar (or down filled)
She'd like it to be more dressy ish, if that makes sense so she can wear it with her boots. So not a ski jacket or thick waterproof.
Would like it to cover her bum, be warm, have a hood and not navy. Could spend up to £100 - Please could someone help me out 😫

Have a look at Joe Browns. I have one of their coats and it's still going strong 5 years later! Still different, still dressy, still warm... some of their stuff can be a bit flimsy but coats seem to be good quality.

I'm sorry, I should have added dd is only 8, so still in children's sizes. Thanks though.

Monsoon have some gorgeous ones in their sale, and most have detachable fur collars/trims if she dislikes it.

TK Maxx would be a great place to search too - online or in store.

TheWoollybacksWife · 30/08/2017 12:33

Would you get away with quilted rather than down filled?

The link doesn't seem to want to paste but take a look at the "Morcotte" jacket from Joules.

Llamacorn · 30/08/2017 12:34

Thanks, some lovely ones at monsoon but none that fit the bill unfortunately. I hadn't thought of tk maxx, I don't have one close but will look online just now.

Thank you, Quilted would be fine, that's a nice jacket and no fur (yay). I just worry it wouldn't be warm enough to cope with a Scottish winter, hmm.

Thanks again, that one from John Lewis looks like it might be ok, I'll show her and see what she thinks - she's not a fan of bright colours but I can keep my fingers crossed.
Unfortunately the duffle coats come under the 'can't touch fleecy' category otherwise would get one of those.
Need it to be super cosy, why is this so stressful lol.

Boden duffle coat. No fluffy or fleecy lining. Come in a range of colours. Very warm

Greenglassteacup · 30/08/2017 12:47

We've got a boden duffle & it doesn't feel fleecy to the touch. Hope you find something she likes

Llamacorn · 30/08/2017 13:15

Thanks, I like the look of the Boden one but I really don't know what she'd be like feeling it (I know, she's very particular!) What does the material feel like if you don't mind me asking? Do they have shops or are they just online?

OP posts:
Greenglassteacup · 30/08/2017 13:20

It's very soft wool, not itchy, and the inside is quilted cotton- really soft. They do free returns so she could feel it & it could go back if no good. Only online

Grimmfebruary · 30/08/2017 13:21

Would you be any better off looking at boys coats perhaps? Always less fussy. Vertbaudet do nice coats too.

SimplyNigella · 30/08/2017 13:25

This is gorgeous but possibly not warm enough. They usually do a down filled version in various colours for the winter but they don't seem to be in the shops yet. They are a Swedish brand so they understand weatherproofing.

SimplyNigella · 30/08/2017 13:26

Or possibly this, which is over budget but should be able to find a discount code.

No hood, but if she'll wear a hat this is nice and looks warm:

Thanks, I might order one from Boden and see how it feels or stalk too see if a child has one in the school playground Grin

I like the Rodini one but agree it looks too lightweight, just looked at their winter range in their website and it's all rather odd prints and fur lol, will keep an eye out.

I looked at a&a earlier on and didn't see that molo one, I really like it - please tell me it's black and not navy though 🙈

Dd used to always wear boys ones but a kid at school was teasing her about it so she has refused to wear one since! Agree they were a lot less fussy too.

Came on to suggest the Boden coats.
