Brand loyalty for skincare and makeup?

I was recently out with a group including some people I didn't know and the discussion turned to skincare ranges and makeup. One person was all about Clarins, another raved about Liz Earl and showed us her makeup bag of the stuff. It got me thinking about someone I knew at university that used nothing but Lancome skin care and makeup and a couple of people I worked with in my first job who were totally into Clinique. All these people thought that it was better for their skin and gave a better makeup finish to stick to just one company.
I have always had a complete mix of brands in my bathroom cabinet and wondered if anyone else subscribes to the one brand only route? Is there any mileage in limiting your brands?

I don't particularly think so.
I Love EH for her balm but hated the 3 other things I tried. One was too much for my skin and broke me out.
Although I use different primers /foundation generally when a brand launches one they formulate it to use in conjunction with existing products.
I know some people who use the same brand but one is brand snobs for won't use anything else and one other went to a counter and got duped into buying many things one of which is a foundation which was too full cover and light in shade for her skin Confused

Don't think you need to stay with one brand at all especially since many brands are owned by the same company eh L'Oréal owns Lancôme, urban decay, kiehls and Estée Lauder owns MAC, BB, TF and often they share same technologies or even formulas. The newEL DW foundation is very very similar to the MAC water weight

No loyalty with me. I do buy a lot of stuff from The Ordinary, but only because it's cheap and good.

I use all different brands for hair, skin and make up.
I don't think it makes any difference by sticking to one brand.

Good to hear I'm not the only one without brand loyalty. If I find a product I like I am tempted to check out other things in the range, but see no point in limiting myself.

I've always mixed and matched. If someone has loads of things from one brand I'd just assume they encountered a particularly effective salesperson on that counter.

That's why testers/samples are your friends, I always ask for a sample, and 9/10 times I get given one, that way I am not limiting myself and then if I use the sample and like it I can then go and buy it Smile

I cherry pick the best products from several different brands. It isn't better for your skin to stick with one brand and they don't work together better either. For example I love lancome foundation and mascara, but have found a better powder from Nars, but Nars foundation is horrible on my skin.

MusicToMyEars800 · 29/08/2017 13:07

Fresta, I am the same, the Benefit Mascaras work really well with my lashes but all of the other make up products just don't work for me.

I used to be loyal to MAC and Bobbi Brown but when they started selling in China and lost their cruelty free status I had to find alternatives I now use a mix of Autograph and Physicians Formula for cosmetics and Kiss My Face for skincare along with Nip and Fab.

Grawp · 29/08/2017 15:47

I just cherry pick too. Sometimes if something is nice I might look to other products from the same brand but that's it.

BluebellGal · 29/08/2017 18:16

No loyalty here. I find most companies do a couple of products really well. So I pick these...

Nars for blusher

Urban Decay for tinted moisturiser (named skin), naked eye colour palette, eye primer

Lipstick Queen for my lipsticks

Bobbi Brown for eyeliners

I go cheap for mascara -currently I love Natural Collection for waterproof mascara & Barry M for lengething. I don't get on with the expensive ones people recommend (Lancôme, Benefit etc).

I also have no loyalty when it comes to perfume. I change them up everyday depending on mood/ occasion (I buy sample boxes from the Perfume Society)

MusicToMyEars800 · 29/08/2017 21:34

I have no loyalty to perfume brands either Bluebell there are just too many that I love to be loyal Grin atm I am switching between Gucci Bamboo and Chanel Allure.

I do for skin care (LRP) but for make up I'm anybody's!
