Wardrobe organisation

I've recently moved house and have far less wardrobe/clothes storage space than in the last place. I've given a lot of my clothes and shoes to the charity shop but what remains is proving difficult to organise.

I've had a quick look on Pinterest and everything seems to be aimed at either a capsule wardrobe (which I sometimes aspire to but realistically is not 'me') or huge American walk in closets.

In the last house I designed my clothes storage so it worked perfectly for me, each item had a home.
I now have four large deep drawers within the built in wardrobe, three rails each 4 ft long. In a spare room I have two clothes rails, each of those are 3 ft long. The deep drawers are actually not terribly functional, I'd be much happier with 8 or even 6 shallower drawers so I could keep bras in one, knickers in another, socks tights in another.

So I need to move away from how I've been set up my clothes space for the last couple of decades but feel stuck! Any suggestions about how you organise your own wardrobe space most appreciated. Pics would be great too.
