Can I have a whinge about swimwear?

I'm going on holiday in a few weeks and due to gaining quite a bit of weight, I'm putting away the bikinis and looking for a swimsuit. Finally found one that I loved and was in stock and it was delivered today. And now I remember why I have always hated them - I'm too bloody tall! I'm not even particularly tall. 5'7". It's the right size so it's not as if it's stretching too much outwards to stretch upwards too. It just isn't bloody long enough!

So now I'm having a wee cry because I just wish I was slim enough to look half decent in a bikini and also wondering what the he'll I am going to do?! All the tall swimwear I can find online is way too pricey for my budget!

Tankini? Then the top and bottom are separate and usually longer I find.

Next have a tall section

imjessie · 26/08/2017 21:16

I find all swim wear really small . I'm not why they make it like that .!

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 26/08/2017 21:22

Figleaves do lots of long swimwear.

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 26/08/2017 22:09

I feel your pain. I am tall, large boobs, slim and fit but middle-aged and have had 3 children.

Bikinis are bad on me now, make me look like a saggy old woman. Swimsuits always too short on my body, cut me in half, don't flatter my middle either. Tankinis with built in bra and totally different sizes bottoms to top, make me look like a goddess. Seriously, get yourself the right tankini.

I have a long body and always find this. After much searching, I bought a Slazenger swimsuit from sportsdirect for about £10. I bought it a size bigger than normal, but it fits ok.

Watching for tips: I am short and booby and swimsuits are too short in the body on me too, I've tried going up two sizes but they are wider, not longer!

justaweeone · 27/08/2017 10:44

I feel your pain! I ordered loads of swimsuits before my hols and nothing was right
I found a speedo one that I ordered a few years ago and had never even tried on
It was a revelation
Fits well, good boob support and so comfortable
My Dd 19 even commented that it was nice and was surprised it was a speedo

Run Rabbit do you have midriff on show in a tankini? Does it stay in place or roll up?

Doobigetta · 27/08/2017 11:27

I'm not tall, but I must have a long bofy, because I find one-piece costumes very uncomfortable. I wear bikinis on holiday, and tankinis to swim at home. Speedo do them with shorts-style bottoms and racer-back tops, and I find them very comfortable. The tops don't ride up, so no extra skin gets exposed- you just don't get that compressed feeling.

M&S have some longer length swimsuits

CaseStudyResearch · 27/08/2017 17:12

I'm 5ft 9 with big boobs, so used to suffer with this.

ASOS currently have some for £20 - there's even one for £8 in the sale.
Figleaves have a longer length body - there's a gorgeous swimsuit in their sale for under £30.

cannaethink · 27/08/2017 18:35

I'm 5'8 and have a very long torso so I feel your pain! I have one of these tops from the boden sale

m.boden.co.uk/en-gb/clearance/womens-swimwear/bikinis-tankinis/wb099-blu/womens-china-blue-floral-vine-pop-amalfi-bandeau-tankini-top

It overlaps the bottoms (another pair not the matching ones) and stays in place.

Dustbunny1900 · 27/08/2017 20:24

Why not get a super high waisted bikini? I've seen women as large as Tess holiday pull them off. They only show a sliver of upper torso and they don't ride up your ass crack like one pieces

cupcake007 · 03/09/2017 20:57

I'm a bit late to the party but Long Tall Sally do swim wear. Might be worth a look x

simonthedog · 03/09/2017 21:02

Yes totally agree I am 5'10" and have always had this problem, and tankinis for me don't overlap, they leave a gap, which is no good for me now. I would second the longer length suits that marks and spencer have started doing that someone linked to earlier.

DuncanDonut · 03/09/2017 21:27

I'm on holiday at the moment, and honestly, I'm hugely fat, but there are women here a good six sizes bigger than me in bikinis. And tankinis. Wear what you're comfy in! I wish I hadn't gone for a one piece now, as it's so difficult to go to the loo.
