Large man sized 16 year old boy with very long hair - wedding outfit!

Struggling to find something for DS2 to wear to a wedding next weekend. Proper wedding and all day invite.

We've been unsuccessfully trying suits and are now running out of time.

He's 6'1" solid built with large thighs and hair that comes down past his shoulders which he will neither cut or tie back (Rock/Metal style). he has however agreed to shave off the face fungus.

Suits so far have not fitted and also look ridiculous. Tight budget as everyone needs kitted out. he has no suitable shoes either. The fashion is obviously for slim fit/tailored style - he can't get them on or they won't meet. I've tried regular fit but they seem to be really old fashioned looking, are still too tight and he looks awful.

So far we've tried Moss bros, Next, Burtons and Debenhams. Mostly on-line since in typical teenage boy fashion, he doesn't like shopping (and neither do I).

Any ideas?

Oh and it's a possible outdoor venue and it's in Scotland. he has a little bit of a tum which he's working on but it means he's reluctant to have a shirt tucked in unless he is wearing a hoody jacket.

Hire a kilt with a waistcoat to cover any stomach issues?

Watto1 · 26/08/2017 19:02

This may sound odd but have you tried Asda? My mate's dh is a rugby player (and is therefore biggish of thigh) and really struggled to get a suit to fit but he found Asda suits fitted him well.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/08/2017 19:02

He'd look good in a kilt but he wouldn't go for it, especially as DH and DS1 will be wearing suits. He's very self conscious.

Thanks I'll look at Asda on-line, we don't have one in the vicinity.

His tummy isn't huge, he's more just solid all over - definitely Rugby build, but he is self conscious about everything. Hair is to cover face as on roaccutane for severe acne.

M and S and TMLewin cover a whole range of sizes and shapes. He really needs to go in store and they will help him get the right fit.

Chestervase1 · 26/08/2017 19:08

My son wears dark jeans (almost black) and jackets with white shirts. H & M do really good men's jeans in all sorts of styles, a freind who's son only wore Armani jeans swore they were the same! It is better that he feels comfortable on the day in something that he likes. Try H & M

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/08/2017 19:12

Thanks, he doesn't wear jeans and it definitely wouldn't be smart enough for this wedding. If it was only evening then possibly.

I do need to take him in but we don't have a big town centre, he's currently away on DofE expedition and by the time we get home from school during the week it' would only give us half an hour in town.

It's going to have to be Thursday late night shopping I think :(

We have a small M&S not tried there yet.

I have about 10 suits in the house all waiting to be returned - house looks like a market traders.

Ds is a similar build. His school trouses are mens black trousers from Matalan.

Jenijena · 26/08/2017 19:20

Have you been to a moss bros shop? It's been a few years since DH (different build) bought a suit but they were brilliant at dealing with the 'reluctant shopper who just wants something to fit' problem, and I know other friends who had similar experiences.

Bobbins43 · 26/08/2017 19:22

M&S will have what you are looking for

Biggreygoose · 26/08/2017 19:22

I'm similar build, and slaters is my go to. Failing that ebay. Very occasionally I can get something in tkmax as well.

mysteryfairy · 26/08/2017 19:27

Can you try ordering a few suits in from asos? Convenient to try on at home and easy to send back. The own brand stuff is cheap given he is still changing size, they do a good long inside leg which he needs at 6ft 1. They are younger styled than the brands you've tried so maybe a regular will be better, younger cut for him.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/08/2017 19:33

We don't have a Moss Bros unfortunately. I looked in TK Maxx a couple of weeks ago and they didn't have any suits - not a big store. No Matalan either

I've ordered a grey suit and black shoes from Asda to try. I preferred charcoal but there was no stock But I suspect we will need the shopping trip on Thursday. There is a slaters but the stuff in the (small) window looked a bit funky and there is not a lot on-line in regular, in budget that also isn't black. I'll try them in store on Thursday though.

I'll have a look on Asos too. Need to spend tomorrow parceling up all the stuff that needs to go back.

Strangely he doesn't need long length trousers, he must have quite a long back. DS1 has a 34 inside leg and waist but he seems to have been the easier job. I ordered him in 3 to try, two fit and he chose from those.

Coming on to say Slaters. 5 sons of various sizes have all been fitted at a glance.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/08/2017 19:47

Is a small Slaters shop likely to have more in than they have on line? In regular fit on line there are really only 2 suits (if you eliminate dinner suits) One is pinstripe in two colours - too old fashioned. The other one comes in 3 colours so, if we eliminate black, they have one suit in grey or navy. navy can be a bit funny so that leaves one suit in grey.

Joe Browns?

Biggreygoose · 26/08/2017 19:51

Slaters website is rubbish. There selection in store I have always found to be much better.

Biggreygoose · 26/08/2017 19:52

Their*

TheDuckSaysMoo · 26/08/2017 19:58

If he's 16 he'll get away with a lovely shirt and smart trousers. No?

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/08/2017 20:01

The problem with just shirt and trousers is that he won't tuck the shirt in plus is might be freezing. I don't think he is a waistcoat kinda guy either. None of us really want to go either but it's one of those things that you just have to suck it up and go to.

OP posts:
WaxOnFeckOff · 26/08/2017 20:03

Not much on asos, I'll look at Joe Browns and that's good news about slaters.

OP posts:
TheDuckSaysMoo · 26/08/2017 20:30

If it's a nice enough shirt he'll get away with not tucking in. Something with a straight hem.
