Large man sized 16 year old boy with very long hair - wedding outfit!

Struggling to find something for DS2 to wear to a wedding next weekend. Proper wedding and all day invite.

We've been unsuccessfully trying suits and are now running out of time.

He's 6'1" solid built with large thighs and hair that comes down past his shoulders which he will neither cut or tie back (Rock/Metal style). he has however agreed to shave off the face fungus.

Suits so far have not fitted and also look ridiculous. Tight budget as everyone needs kitted out. he has no suitable shoes either. The fashion is obviously for slim fit/tailored style - he can't get them on or they won't meet. I've tried regular fit but they seem to be really old fashioned looking, are still too tight and he looks awful.

So far we've tried Moss bros, Next, Burtons and Debenhams. Mostly on-line since in typical teenage boy fashion, he doesn't like shopping (and neither do I).

Any ideas?

DS1 has mainly just had the dryness especially the lips, he did his gold dofe last week and came back in a bit of a state. DS2 had constant nosebleeds for the first 6 weeks, he's had allergic rashes and heat rashes and a bit of moodiness.and our house looks like a pharmacy. DS1 had to take antibiotics at the same time as roaccutane but has stopped those now.

The consultant has said that DS2 will be referred for plastic surgery when the treatment is finished. I'm presuming she means some sort of dembrasion

I second jacamo very good for tall men with a broad build. Quite reasonably priced too you could order a couple from there to be delivered in time.

Penelopeg · 26/08/2017 21:54

Also try High and Mighty it's designed for tall and broad build

KeepCalm · 26/08/2017 22:35

Omg tell him he'll TOTALLY rock a kilt. Perfect build for it & if in Scotland will be perfectly in place with every other bloke :)

PacificDogwod · 26/08/2017 22:40

He does sound like he'd have the stature to look great in a kilt.
And with long hair too..

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/08/2017 22:41

he would rock a kilt , we don't even need to hire one, he has one, he wont wear it. He has to wear it for some scout stuff and that's as far as it goes. He has the build and the legs for it.

There is no logic that applies to teenage boys.

OP posts:
PacificDogwod · 26/08/2017 22:48

How good does this guy look?

PacificDogwod · 26/08/2017 22:49

No, there sure isn't - logic and teens don't mix.
Hmm

KeepCalm · 26/08/2017 22:53

If he has one could you bribe him with a new pair of DMs or cat boots or converse to wear with them? Dark socks (don't even need pulled up) and a long sleeve dark tshirt?

Smart enough and tbh you don't sound like you're in the bridal party so (no offence) not like anyone would mind?

CoolCarrie · 26/08/2017 22:56

is that your son in the photo? , he is a handsome lad and would look great in a kilt, and congratulations to him on his award.
High and Mighty are in Castle Street in Edinburgh, definitely worth a try.

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/08/2017 23:01

I agree, it would look great, but I struggle to get him out of jersey shorts and band t-shirts and trainers, he has no interest. His only criteria is that he doesn't want to look stupid, unfortunately his view of what looks stupid doesn't match with anyone else's....and to add to all that he has a high instep so cant wear converse or the like as he can't get his feet in them/can't wear anything too flat - he used to love getting all dressed up and liked a label or two...

He won't want to bring any attention on himself.

OP posts:
WaxOnFeckOff · 26/08/2017 23:02

Nope that's not him in the photo - just some internet random with a similar look :) He is a handsome lad but he doesn't believe it and doesn't like his photo being taken.

OP posts:
PacificDogwod · 26/08/2017 23:03

Well, if he want to 'not look stupid' and not be noticed then he has to blend in.
And to blend in at a wedding he has to look like everybody else whether he thinks it's stupid or not Grin

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/08/2017 23:11

He has a rounder face and more delicate features. This photo is a few years old but I don't really have anything more recent. He was quite confident here, pre spots etc.

exactly Pacific, hence thinking grey/charcoal suit (different shade from Dad and big brother). I'm not sure how many (other than the wedding party) will be in kilts, it's DH's family.

We scots are fairly laid back regards a wedding. The fact you're making and effort and going will be appreciated.

Good luck Op. The road to pleasing a teenager regards a wedding outfit is long and treacherous one. Wishing you patience strength FlowersGin

And gin.....

WaxOnFeckOff · 26/08/2017 23:28

ha ha we are Scottish! It might help if we didn't intensely dislike the groom...bride seems nice but we've only met her once.

At the end of the day they've very kindly invited us so we will make the effort and try to enjoy ourselves, they've also included the boys which most people wouldn't bother so there are some good points.

Also can't drink Gin...bleurghh. DH not drinking as we aren't staying over, nothing to stop me having some Wine though Wink

Second Jackamo recommendation.

dementedma · 27/08/2017 07:57

Whit a braw laddie wax. DS is currently splattered with acne and won't put the cream on because he cant be bothered. Think I will share some of these scarring stories with him. He also has horrible stretch marks round his middle as he is overweight and lives in tracky bottoms and trainers. Hes a real catch!!! Hoping the ugly duckng will become a magnificent swan in due course.Grin

Lucked · 27/08/2017 08:02

I would have a look at Jacamo, Freddie flintoff has his own line with them and I something else you can order before thursday

reetgood · 27/08/2017 08:17

He sounds like my partner as a teenager 20 years ago, he still doesn't love suits. I think it was only about 5 years ago we started to get suits right 'his way'

What we did was to completely veto any single breasted suit, skinny ties, fitted shirts. He wears double breasted jackets, two piece suit, classic fit shirts and normally skips the tie. No black suits or white shirts as he looks like a bouncer (one for your son as he gets older :) ). Second Slaters: we basically just walked in there and said we hate shopping, here's the parameters, show us suits. We walked out fully kitted including shoes, think it only came to £140 in total so you could def do on a budget. Also because he's normally mostly in the shirt without jacket, we invested in nice shirts in dark not usual colours: light grey, dark blue, maroon. I pushed from proper double cuffs with cufflinks but I think a teenage boy could avoid that.

Hope you've found a solution all are happy with!

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/08/2017 09:02

Thanks again everyone. Yes to the dark shirts, also better to hide any bleeding from the few active spots. And up to about £150 would be the budget. Less if possible. DS1 I'm sure will remain a similar size. I'm hoping to get DS2 to shed a bit of weight as I know he'd feel better for it. He'll never be a skinny man as he has a broader build and always has. I can remember the HV being surprised at the rolls of fat on a breast fed baby. He wasn't overweight as a child though. When he hit puberty he'd go out then up. Lately the out has been more than the up.

Demented, thank you and I'd forgotten about the stretch marks! I'm sure there is swan in there. Has he been to the GP? Sorry if you've said and I've forgotten. DS1 did all the washing and creams and antibiotics prior to going on the roaccutane. DS2 refused to go and wouldn't have done the creams etc anyway. When I did make him go, he got an immediate referral to consultant for roaccutane and went on antibiotics while waiting. No creams involved.

As for something that he's happy with, at this moment in time I have no idea where he is or when he is back! Guessing dinner time.

This sounds so much like wedding shopping with my rugby player built DH with his tree trunk thighs! I give another vote to High & Mighty. A waistcoat might be helpful, we ended up getting one specially tailored for DH which he now wears to every wedding we go to (hates wearing a tucked in shirt) but before this he wore one of the false waitcoasts with a proper waistcoat front but then elastic straps across the back...

reetgood · 27/08/2017 11:20

@demented @waxon my partner was a self conscious, very overweight, lived in casual clothes teenager who is a very handsome man who scrubs up lovely. still big but now just a big man iyswim. And he still has stretch marks too but they've faded. Definitely still time for swan! And in the meantime, hopefully he finds his interim style more quickly than my partner did :)
