Large man sized 16 year old boy with very long hair - wedding outfit!

Struggling to find something for DS2 to wear to a wedding next weekend. Proper wedding and all day invite.

We've been unsuccessfully trying suits and are now running out of time.

He's 6'1" solid built with large thighs and hair that comes down past his shoulders which he will neither cut or tie back (Rock/Metal style). he has however agreed to shave off the face fungus.

Suits so far have not fitted and also look ridiculous. Tight budget as everyone needs kitted out. he has no suitable shoes either. The fashion is obviously for slim fit/tailored style - he can't get them on or they won't meet. I've tried regular fit but they seem to be really old fashioned looking, are still too tight and he looks awful.

So far we've tried Moss bros, Next, Burtons and Debenhams. Mostly on-line since in typical teenage boy fashion, he doesn't like shopping (and neither do I).

Any ideas?

demented, my DS2(13) has stretch marks horizontally across his lower back from when he shot up really fast last year.
They have already faded and really only visible if I go looking for them Grin

It's be a right of passage for him, Wax, a proper grown-up outfit for a grown-up occasions. He'll do you proud on the day Smile

Slaters is fab in store for a good selection that fits well and doesn't break the bank, definitely think that's your best bet!

umberellaonesie · 27/08/2017 11:28

Matalan is your friend.
Chinos and a shirt.
Just had to by my man sized 12 year old similar out fit for wedding.

AndWhat · 27/08/2017 11:43

My 19 inch collar hubby gets all his suits from Slaters! They are brilliant quality and can sometimes order the right size if they don't have it in store, otherwise Jacamo or High and Mighty are your friends.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/08/2017 11:55

He is a 16 to 16.5 collar depending on the fit. He's broader than DH and DS1 and he doesn't get it from me either. If it wasn't for the fact he looks like his uncle and cousins on DHs side, I'd wonder if I'd been given the wrong baby.

Good luck this week with his clothes and enjoy the wedding

YetAnotherHelenMumsnet · 28/08/2017 14:52

Hi Wax,
Just give us a shout if you decide that you don't want that photo up for all eternity and we can get rid of it for you. Have fun at the wedding and good luck with the search for clothes.

bigTillyMint · 28/08/2017 15:05

Your poor DSs suffering with acne Sad

Have you tried Matalan or Primark - both v cheap though I have no idea what the sizings like for bigger boys (they do well where I live and lots of big men around so may be lucky?)

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/08/2017 17:43

@YetAnotherHelenMumsnet yes, that would be good thank you!

Bit of an update. After all the stuff arrived and bigger jackets and trousers were variously ordered to match with bits already arrived, we got a suit that technically fitted. However he looked like a sack of tatties in it and it just seemed pointless paying out good money for something he didn't look nice in and wouldn't wear again. So, went into town straight from school today. We had a chat on the way home and I asked him if instead of a suit he'd prefer just nice trousers and a smart shirt and tie maybe with a waistcoat or a bomber jacket type of thing. Anyway, he said that he'd mentioned to a boy at school he was going to a wedding and the boy had asked if he was wearing a kilt. So he said he might like to wear a kilt!

Dropped into the house to try his and DHs kilts on and both were too neat so went into town and hired the full shebang.

He tried it on on top of his school trousers in the shop, but even then he looked absolutely gorgeous in it (even if I do say so myself!)

He is wearing it just with a plain white shirt and a dark green tie together with the waistcoat and jacket. It's just a generic dark green tartan rather than our family one as it's a bit short notice.

Not sure how many outside the actual wedding party will be kilted but he doesn't care, he looks like he's grown a foot taller just with the compliments and feeling nice in it rather than slumping and feeling rotten.

Looks perfect with the long hair and he's not sure now whether to shave or just leave the face fuzz.

Thank you all for all your help, it was much appreciated. Now just DS1 to pick a shirt and tie and we are all sorted!

That is a great result, I bet him will look grand, have a lovely time!

OuiMerci · 31/08/2017 18:02

Aww, that sounds fab! He's got the perfect build for a kilt.

Have a great time at the wedding!

WaxOnFeckOff · 31/08/2017 18:33

Thank you :)

Next question, what colour shirt with a medium grey suit?

Dh is wearing a deeper grey suit with a very very pale blue shirt and berry coloured tie

So, DS1s suit is a little paler and he tried it with a pale grey shirt but it needs something to lift it a little so he tried it with a burgundy tie and it looked nice but maybe too matchy with DH.

He tried it with a lovely blue shirt with a subtle check and it looked nice but the shirt was too neat and wasn't sure on what tie colour.

Current options include a white (school) shirt, the pale grey, a dark grey which is almost same colour as the suit with a silvery coloured tie maybe?

Or happy to buy something new. he is very quiet so wants to blend into the crowd.

he has dark hair and blue eyes and a medium complexion that stillreddish with the acne drugs

He looks fantastic, result!

DollyPartonsBeard · 03/09/2017 14:53

Oh gosh, he looks amazing. He suits the kilt perfectly. I've just read through his whole thread and almost got a bit teary. He sounds like a great lad and you're a really kind mum. I still shudder at some of things my mum made me wear for weddings when I was a teen.

Tiddlywinks63 · 03/09/2017 14:53

Gosh! That's one really good looking guy op; he definitely suits wearing a kilt!

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/09/2017 15:19

Thanks you for your kind words, of course I am biased clearly but I thought he looked fab. He was also chuffed that he had no problem getting served at the bar....Hmm :o He was particularly amused with the "Think 25" poster behind the bar given that he only turned 16 3 weeks ago!

I have really enjoyed reading this thread, nice to see the end result, he looked great.

CoolCarrie · 03/09/2017 16:01

He looked great and you have been proud of him.

pinkyredrose · 03/09/2017 18:04

He looks fantastic!

bigTillyMint · 03/09/2017 18:27

He looks fantastic - so much better than a suit Grin

HemanOrSheRa · 03/09/2017 18:36

He looks amazing. So handsome and smart. You are right to be proud of him. He looks pretty pleased with himself too and rightly so Smile. And that HAIR! Gorgeous!

Reminds me of buying DS's first suit for a wedding and how handsome he looked too. I seem to have something in my eye .

WaxOnFeckOff · 03/09/2017 20:19

Thanks again all. He was feeling much better about himself, it was lovely to see. We all had a lovely time. Smile

Diet starts tomorrow, not that he knows that yet. Just cutting down on everything a little bit without him noticing too much. e.g. smaller slices of bread for his sandwiches, smaller bowls for the cereal.

PacificDogwod · 04/09/2017 19:49

I'm just catching up and I have to say he looked great! Smile
He really suited a kilt and I am glad you all had a nice time.

Really nice to see a young lad growing in to liking his adult(ish) shape.
Whatever you do diet-wise, he will feel/see the difference so quickly being a teenager with a teenaged metabolism... Envy
