Please help me to find a decent leather bag that isn't too expensive

I'm tired of plastic bags that wear out and look cheap. I want quality leather that wears well, but I don't want to pay for a designer label. I'm hoping to pay no more than £200. To me, quality means the stitching holds up and the interior lining doesn't develop holes.

Where should I look in this price range?

I have a few specific things I seek:

*Roomy: big enough to hold an A10 pad (but probably not bigger).

*It has to at least have an extra strap to wear over the body (additional shorter straps for over the arm OK.)

*It has to have an exterior pocket or two.

*This is huge: it can't be divided into two symmetrical halves. Two compartments is great, but if it's not obvious at a glance that the sides are different, I will spend hours of my life looking in the wrong compartment for my keys.

*Black is ideal. I'll consider colours but never brown or tan.

Am I asking too much? I'd love some suggestions for where I can look within my price range... Any specific links to bags would be a bonus.

Look at Jigsaw, their leather is lovely quality.

JustGettingStarted · 25/08/2017 09:01

Thank you! Their hobo bag does fit my requirements, although I am not sure if I'm enthralled with the way it looks.

I'm happy to know that at least someone makes things in my price range.

Are there any other sites offering similar?

T. K. Maxx is your place.

I have a lovely Osprey bag big enough to fit either my laptop or a bottle of wine, able to be held by the handles, over my arm (WAGstyle) or over my shoulder. It's taken 3 years of abuse and was £50

I get all my handbags from T. K. Maxx- I'm definitely not into "designer" unless it's Hermes it's a rip off and the only thing wrong with my current bag is it has Osprey embossed into the front. I find clothes with brand names on them a bit vulgar, so I've broken my own rule. But it's a fantastically useful reasonably stylish bag.

On my phone, so don't know how to do a link, and it looks like the "Bug Large Leather Grab Bag". But I didn't pay £365!!!!

This is slightly over budget but a good discount and coach bags are very good quality www.tkmaxx.com/uk/en/women/accessories/handbags/navy-leather-tote-bag/p/11157637

Chewbecca · 25/08/2017 09:15

Have you looked at Clarks? I think all of their leather bags are under £100.

Bananapud · 25/08/2017 09:15

There are others within price range here villageengland.com/luxury-leather-designer-handbags-from-village-england.html/#page=2 and here www.modalu.com but not sure if any are large enough under £200

JustGettingStarted · 25/08/2017 09:42

I have to take a good look at TK Maxx. The one closest to me doesn't have anything nice, but the one in Manchester city centre gets more high end stuff.

I just checked out Clarks. They have a couple of "maybes" and the price is certainly good.

Google Hydestyle. An up and coming brand of great style and quality. I have a soft suede bag I've used day in, day out for 4 years and receive endless compliments and questions s about it. Beautiful bag. Generous colour choice.

I paid only £65 but they're a bit more now.

Or try Ebay for some cracking deals on all brands.

Proper bag lady here!

It recently started to look a bit grubby so I dyed it with suede dye, with excellent results.

PNGirl · 25/08/2017 10:02

I have the previous season version of this in burgundy and I love it.

www.fossil.com/uk/en/products/peyton-double-flap-crossbody-sku-zb7100001c.html

Mine has a zip pocket across the back seam of the flap but I can't tell if this does.

PNGirl · 25/08/2017 10:03

If that's too small, have a look at their other stuff. The quality is good for the price.

Lanaa · 25/08/2017 10:12

Have a look at Rowallan, some of their stuff is in the old lady category, but I've bought some lovely good quality cross body bags and satchels from them.

JustGettingStarted · 25/08/2017 10:47

There are several nice bags on the fossil site!

Rowallan looks interesting, but they're difficult to shop for. They're carried on several sites, but it's hard to search for what I want, even on Amazon.

This thread is just what I was after- thankyou!

Fossil Peyton bag & new wallet in brown is on it's way after the weekend ...some lovely stuff in the sale.

JustGettingStarted · 28/08/2017 03:41

My Google searches must have triggered something, because this has been showing up on my Facebook timeline:

www.mdbm.uk

This is exactly the kind of thing I am looking for. Has anyone dealt with this company before?

Did you really mean A10 pad? I just googled it and A10 is tiny!

This shop does lovely leather bags at very reasonable prices.

vanilla-paris.co.uk/bags.html

If you can't get to London and would rather try before you buy I agree with the PP who suggested TK Maxx. They always have a great selection and a good range of prices.

JustGettingStarted · 28/08/2017 06:52

You're right, I mean a4

So does 'other stories'
Kin John Lewis own brand too

imjessie · 28/08/2017 07:38

I would go to an outlet , fossil make lovely bags and always have big discounts . Or wait until the sales .

Auntiedahlia · 28/08/2017 07:53

Fossil bags are excellent. I've got quite a few decent leather bags, but always seem to use my fossil one. Really well made.

Corneliasedet · 28/08/2017 07:59

I'd recommend avoiding vanilla Paris really. I had a bad experience with them, bag I'd ordered suddenly wasn't in stock, looked to be slipping into some form of insolvency (reviews on line showed not for the first time), owner was rude and aggressive when I tracked him down, wouldn't refund my money, I ended up with a bag I'm quite meh about.

PaganGoddessBrigid · 28/08/2017 08:02

Radley are normally mocked on here but I was in a shop a few days ago and liked a few of their new bags!

I got a beautiful black leather bag in Dune a while ago.

mumoffour1716154 · 28/08/2017 08:08

Fossil usually has a great range of bags in various styles, but pricey. Tkmaxx often stocks fossil and other good quality brands at reasonable prices.

However I bought a diesel leather bag for £5 from a charity shop, retail is £180. Also have been able to buy fatface, fossil, fiorelli bags (I go to charity shops every week as most of my clothes are from there. I have bought dresses from Boden, ASOS, gap etc in perfect condition.
