Any lovely leather jackets out there?

I think I'd like to get a new leather jacket.

I already have a very old and faithful jacket that I picked up for the princely sum of £40 - classic style, hip length, wide rever collar with an off centre zip. I love it, it looks good with jeans and a t shirt but it is pretty battered. I'd like something that is a bit smarter, I think, with lovely soft leather where mine is tough and crackled!

I am lucky enough to have about £200 in John Lewis vouchers burning a hole in my pocket - what should I be looking for? Cut? Colour? Collar? They're all starting to look the same ... I need help!

Ooops - I meant to say: am willing to put up to £150 max with the vouchers, so my budget is about £350 in total.

JL have a Hobbs one in black or burgundy which I'm quite taken with as it's more minimal in style than some. The burgundy isn't a colour I'd usually go for but I'm tempted.

Oo I like that too! But I have purchased!

I saw this one in our local department store and it is lovely, very soft leather. I like autumnal colours, so it'll make a change to the black one I already have. Just one left in John Lewis, so I've gone with it! Have spent more time choosing a chocolate bar ... Blush

Like that one you went for too. Nice colour. Tempted myself!

Remember to keep the leather soft using a neutral body lotion and a soft cloth to polish. Might revive your old jacket, too?

Blast - I found it here too, with 10% off if you sign up to their mailing list. No good to me, as I had the JL vouchers.

gin - thanks for the tip. Do you mean unscented body lotion? And definitely worth giving it a go on my old jacket. It needs a bit of TLC.

Yes, very basic unscented body lotion. Tip given to me by an upholsterer. Leather is basically skin, after all.

SallyOMalley · 24/08/2017 19:54

I'll give it a go - thanks!

I got a teal Baukjen one years ago and am still wearing it - they're great quality

SallyOMalley · 27/08/2017 22:45

Thanks ocelot. I'll have a loom, I quite like Baukjen clothes.

I sent the green jacket from JL back. The green wasn't as grey as it looked on screen and I think I'll struggle to find things to wear with it. I cleaned up my ancient black leather jacket with some leather cream and it's come up beautifully. Can I afford to spend £350-£380 on a new on, even if £200 is in vouchers? Not sure! Perhaps with £200 I'd be better off getting some lovely new clothes for autumn / winter and sticking with the old faithful jacket I've already got (which, incidentally, cost me £40 on eBay!)
