Cleaning and protecting leather handbags

It´s only just ocurred to me, thanks to buying a new fancy pants handbag which told me I should, that I might do so.

It said to use an appropriate cleaner (boggle) and a silicone spray (never heard of).

What do you use?

I guess it depends on the type of leather really. I've always used Colonil products on Mulberry bags. There's a spray you can use to protect against water and I also use their cream to go over scratches and keep the leather supple. Have never heard of a silicon spray though!?
