This dress specifically

That matches the navy recommended for me, and I'm a Winter, which is cool.

Squashit · 23/08/2017 12:45

If it's navy it is cool toned.

LaCerbiatta · 23/08/2017 13:41

I would've said cool without hesitation but after a whole thread with people saying that indigo is warm I'm not sure anymore....

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 23/08/2017 13:45

Nice dress! BUt yes, I'd say it's generally cool, colour-wise.

PhyllisWig · 23/08/2017 13:54

French navy is a warm navy I believe (its in my house of colour spring palette). However i find it v hard to find - joules and the occasional phase eight are my best bets.

LaCerbiatta · 23/08/2017 14:17

But any blue is cool.....
Is a warm navy a navy that suits people with warm colouring???
It doesn't make it a warm colour....

IT depends on the navy! See the house of colour wheel for how navy can fit into the diff seasons and be slightly different. I am a winter and some navys look better then others on me, the crisper clearer bolder ones work whereas the softer more muted ones don't

Also shows that that not all
Blues are cool. The ones on the autumn and spring charts are warmer blues although sometimes the distinction between the darker blues is hard to tell

Squashit · 23/08/2017 15:03

The thing is though looking at that colour chart the warm blues are teals and not not navy at all and the summer ones are French blue which again isn't navy.

Paintbox · 23/08/2017 15:57

I'm not sure squashit, I can see what I would call navy in the spring summer and autumn section. There are loads of variations of navy, which is often a problem if trying to match two navy items of clothing

allertse · 23/08/2017 17:18

Navy can be warm or cool, as can blue. Some have more yellow tones in than others.

I would have said that navy is quite warm toned. If you click on the smaller picture, of a woman who I assume bought it, it looks lovely on her and she has very yellow undertones.

When working out if a colour is warm or cool, I tend to imagine it as paint, and then mentally drop a bit of yellow or royal blue paint in and imagine which changes the "feel" of the colour more.

WavingNotDrowning · 23/08/2017 17:26

I think that's a cool navy. I'm a winter and wear navy.

I don't actually know what warm people wear though!

CheckingMyPrivilege · 23/08/2017 20:33

Yeah allertse, that's what baffled me. She's so warm-toned and it definitely suits her.
