Help me find a going out top for size 16

I have no smart clothes, tend to just wear leggings and tunics or jeans and baggy plaid shirts/ long cardigans.

I'd like to have just one nice top to wear with black jeans when going to a family do or out.

I'm size 16, large of nork, Apple shape, so no waist, 5 feet 7, dark hair. I tend to wear long tops that cover my bum and scoop neck otherwise I look matronly!

Any ideas? Can order online or get to some shops locally but find fitting rooms too depressing.

Links would be great!

TIA

Sorry rubbish at links but try Mint Velvet online

Hush always has a variation on the drapey v-neck/wrap blouse each season, this is the current one: m.johnlewis.com/hush-atlas-wrap-shirt/burgundy/p/3291473

It's a heavy fabric so looks smart.

Justchillaxing · 22/08/2017 19:38

Thanks. I've looked at Mint Velvet but don't know what style would suit me, and haven't really seen anything I like.

chevre the top isn't long enough to cover my bum, I don't think I'd feel comfortable in it.

No advice, but watching, as I am you.
(only I'm 5'4")

Ah sorry, I read that as you wanted something different from your normal scoop neck + longer length.

Do you want glitz/glam or more plain? Not sure if this is your kind of thing, but it would be long enough and the neckline definitely isn't matronly: https://www.scarlettandjo.com/products/twist-knot-lurex-tunic-2

Have you thought about a kimono jacket?

Try Phase Eight Becca tops, variety of fabrics and colours. Really good for apples.

Thanks .. I've just googled but it just comes up with BECCA jumper .. is that the one?

It would be nice in gold or bronze maybe ...

chevre thanks again .. But I think that top would make me look HUGE ... I'd like to look slimmer if possible ... Grin

I'm the same height and size OP
I think you'd be far better off to look for a dress for evening/going out. Wrap style or something that shows off your cleavage. Far more flattering and stylish than a top and jeans.

Justchillaxing · 23/08/2017 14:09

Thanks. I can't find dresses I like these days. I used to like wrap dresses but again can't find any I like.

I like wearing tube skirts with plain vest tops and long cardigan but again it's not fancy for special occasions.

I find wrap dresses on ebay. High end and lower end.

Loads in the Navabi sale - you should be able to filter by colour etc www.navabi.co.uk/specials.html?size=2&category[]=tops&psize=60&sort=priceup&p=1

ImperialBlether · 23/08/2017 14:38

What about something like this from Phase Eight?

Justchillaxing · 25/08/2017 00:50

I didn't really want a blouse. Just a top but something a bit special but current, not old fashioned, not office-wear-smart.

Try Yours Clothing and New Look Curves! Most of my stuff is from there Smile

FeedMeAndTellMeImPretty · 25/08/2017 00:56

I'd take a couple of hours and pick up everything you can find in H&M. All my favourite tops came from there and I'm your size and height.

fauxhito · 25/08/2017 04:36

That seraphina top looks like it would be flattering. Tempted to get it myself

Ifonlyiweretaller · 25/08/2017 09:47

I've just bought this top - already have the same style with a cream background. It i slightly longer at the back. I don't wear it 'off shoulder' but still feel quite dressy in it. I love the sleeves too. I bought mine in New Look yesterday in a 16. www.apricotonline.co.uk/mall/productpage.cfm/womensclothing/_5051839197039/461702/Navy-Hibiscus-Flower-Print-Bardot-Top

Justchillaxing · 26/08/2017 22:52

Thanks .. it's pretty but I can't wear that neckline.
